Surely the chances of all three lots being bad are slim, and I am sure they have been cooked thoroughly. DH had them too and is ok - have I developed some kind of intolerance?

My mum is the same with prawns. it sounds like an intolerance to me.

Ironic name BTW

My DM loves prawns and so she still eats them. She moans and complains the following day. So when I ask her why she still eats them, she responds in a child-like fashion "because I like them".

I developed a bad reaction (not sure it is a true allergy) to bivalves - eg mussels, scallops, oysters - in my early 20s having been fine with them before.

4-5h after eating them I get a terrible temperature, stomach cramps and then awful vomiting till my body is sure they;re all gone. No lasting effects though.

First time I thought it was just one bad one, second time I blamed the (frankly unwise) amount of alcohol consumed alongside, but when it happened after some delicious and impeccably-prepared oysters in a fabulous restaurant in France I became a bit more wary.

Then at someone's wedding I gave dh my scallops and ate the salad from underneath them... and still reacted. Was 8m pg at the time and it was not pleasant .

But I am fine with all other seafood - crabs, lobster, prawns etc - and with snails, it is just things that come in a two-part shell that get me.

One day when I can be bothered I am going to try and re-tolerise myself as it is a PITA and I miss them.

It sounds like you have an intolerance. I would be careful though because I read somewhere that it is your body's way of telling you not to eat them and one day you might have a really bad reaction.

It happened to someone I worked with - went to lunch one day and had seafood as normal but ended up in A&E needing to be kept in overnight with massive reaction after a minor reaction previously.

DH also now has a very bad reaction to Oysters having once had a bad one and puked all night. Now when he eats an oyster he feels ill afterwards so does not have them any more. (not that we go out and eat decatdent food!!! To go out would be nice.....)

I used to be able to eat all seafood. I had food poisoning from lobster at a wedding years ago (all the guests got it!) and ever since then, my intolerance to all seafood has grown. Exactly the same symptoms you describe. I have stopped eating it which is a shame as I love it.
