I can do me and the kids with one bottle of Hedrin and dd has v curly thick hair and needs most of the Hedrin, I have long hair and ds has well boy's hair. So you won't need 4 bottles I imagine.

If they are mahoosive - will a nittygritty comb not shift them?

MaryBS · 02/12/2009 19:25

Our pharmacy has a minor ailments service - we got Hedrin for free for both children - 4 small bottles, totalling £16.

Alternatively the Dr will "prescribe" something, and if its for children, its again FOC.

DisElfchanted3 · 02/12/2009 19:27

wow, never heard the the minor ailments thing,

can I ask whats covered under it? cough medicin? calpol?

Goober · 02/12/2009 19:27

Go see GP and get it on prescription, you will still have to pay £7.20 for you and DH but cheaper than £100.

In the meantime use the combing/conditioner treatment.

bran · 02/12/2009 19:28

You don't need a whole bottle per person per treatment. You only need to spray on enough so that the hair is completely coated when you comb it through. I did a family of 4 with a bottle and a bit (and I had to do 3 treatments because we couldn't do it 7 days apart so we had to do it 5 day and then another 5 days).

It works like a dream, the bastards died. [evil grin]

foxinsocks · 02/12/2009 19:30

it's such a waste of gp's time (something like nits)

it's no wonder I can never get an appointment!

Each bottle does 2 people twice - so it's £24. I can't work out how you got to £100.

foxinsocks · 02/12/2009 19:35

yes, true tree.

bran · 02/12/2009 19:36

Alternatively, just shave everyone's hair off.

Actually, I did a family of 3. I remember now that it was before we got DD that we had the nit outbreak.

NewPenName · 02/12/2009 19:47

hedrin's complete waste of money. must have taken me £100s to realise that (following advice on here ). doesn't bloody well work or no better than smothering yr head with any other (cheaper) such substance conditioner/baby oil etc.
Don't bother with it!

MaryBS · 02/12/2009 19:52

Pop in your local pharmacy and ask if they do it. Our pharmacy had been running the scheme since April, but no-one knew.

As for wasting the GP's time, I mentioned it when we were in there for something else, and he prescribed it. Then it was just a question of requesting repeat prescriptions.

lavenderkate · 02/12/2009 20:02

I'm back, sitting in shower cap with hedrin allover hair and scalp.
have saved a bit for ds but would certainly not cover the other 2 long haired dcs.

minor ailments scheme ?

Fantastic will go tomorrow for everyone else's.

Bran- try telling dd13yrs that we are about to shave her long hair off

Thanks for the advice.
