Combined starflower/evening primrose oil capsules....anyone else find these help with PMT/heavy periods?

I decided, just over a month ago, to go onto the combined starflower/evening primrose capsules you can get from Holland and Barrett. My monthlies have always been all over the place since having DD2, almost 6yrs ago...some months I'd have two periods, other months none at all. I have been on cerazette mini-pill for the last few years also... my moods would be all over the place and I decided to start on the starflower/EPO to see if they'd help...and I really do think they have helped! I've not had a monthly for a month (I know taking Cerazette every day can also do this, but it has never worked for me...having no periods whilst on the mini-pill) plus I feel so much better in myself...no more PMT and a lot happier. I know I'm due on fairly soon (sore boobs!) but I'm hoping this period will be manageable and not have me running to the bathroom every hour on the hour!

Anyone else on starflower/EPO...if so how do you find it?

I have tried both Starflower and EPO and did find they helped with water retention so boobs didn't get as sore. I find Agnus Castus to be the most helpful supplement I have ever taken. I was suffering with mood swings, irregular periods, you name it I had it. Since taking Agnus Castus I haven't looked back. Periods are regular again, no PMT, no nothing!

Agnus Castus? Wow...what a weird name...must go and google it!

What I'm hoping to do is come off the mini-pill altogether...and I'm just wondering (and hoping!) that by taking starflower/EPO on a permanent basis will be enough to help me cope with my periods?

Have it so bad that I'm under a Consultant.

On my first visit to see him he asked me if I'd tried any of these remedies and I said I'd tried them all. He asked me how I'd found them and I said they weren't much use and he agreed.

He did suggest though that I take calcium. Apparently there is some evidence that women who suffer PMS are low in calcium which is interesting as I have a very small amount of dairy foods in my diet.

Currently, I on prostap injections and HRT but considering whether to have my ovaries out. Unfortunately, I can't have the pill as the risk of stroke is too high for me.

I'd ask your GP to refer you to the PMS Clinic at the local hospital.

Starflower, EPO, plus many other herbal products do help us girls with our probs. Agnus Castus is definitely one to be considered. Many people have chosen this over other products to ease the mood swings etc that we suffer from with great benefit and results. Meds are all very well, until you start to notice the horid side effects.
