swine flu vaccine in early pregnancy...

if you are in the early stages of pregnancy are you going to have it? I have been called in (am 8 weeks), but the idea of it doesn't sit well with me, and I am in a dilemna.

Thankyou

I'm 9 weeks and going to wait til second trimester.

They are supposed to be calling people in for the clinics next week, the last one is on Friday.

I still haven't had a letter though, and am high risk for asthma too.

Don't want to chase it though as def don't want it in 1st trimester.

Over here they are only vaccinating women who are at least 13 weeks pregnant, are they doing it earlier in the UK. Seems odd.

Thankyou.

I was surprised to be called so early, about a week after I saw my gp. And thought i had heard from somewhere that it was not a good idea until after 16 weeks (god knows where i got that random figure!)

I think i will probably wait until 2nd trimester, but am nervous of having swine flu, as I have already had 2 colds in the last 4 weeks and feel crap enough from those.

Of course I might have already had swine flu and all this worry would be uncalled for!

I have had the vaccine already (at 20 weeks) so I am "pro vaccine"...however, I think I would probably wait until the 2nd trimester, jsut because all the "risks" associated with swine flu and pregnancy tend to escalate in the 2nd and third trimester, and also there are lots of things that can go wrong in the first trimester and if (god forbid) something was to happen to your baby, you wouldn't want to be making connections to having had the vaccine if you see what I mean....

I only just noticed there was a special swine flu board and posted this under 'pregnancy'. Here goes again, and apologies for repeat posts:

I went along for a H1N1 vaccine thinking all was well and safe and I was a 'priority group'. Only just, I'm not even 5 weeks yet.

The nurse was VERY unhappy about giving it to me. Said she'd only been giving it to people in 2nd and 3rd trimesters, and she had no idea, because there was no data, on what impact this could have on critical development phase of first trimester.

She spoke to a doctor who told her government guidelines were all pregnant women and she wasn't following government guidelines in expressing her concerns to me.

That kind of response didn't exactly fill me with confidence either!

We are now very worried and confused, and don't know if I get sick in first trimester if I will be OK and if it would be better for me to wait....... can't stand the idea of doing serious damage to my baby....

Thing is, I'm on a long haul flight just before Christmas and worried about re-cycled air blah blah etc

What do I do....? What would you do?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the main risk to pregnant women was in the third trimester because your lungs get kind of compressed as the baby gets bigger making it harder to breathe. If it was me i definitely wouldn't get the vaccine in the first trimester especially at this stage when the flu cases are dropping and it's been shown not to be as serious as originally thought - an unnecessary risk in my opinion...I think there were 6 deaths from swine flu in pregnant women in England out of 190 - I'm not belittling these deaths in any way but I don't think I would feel any more at risk than if I caught seasonal flu which I didn't get vaccinated against when I was pregnant last year.
