DS1 was complaining ALOT of itchy bum..so I have gone in and checked now he is asleep and saw the little buggers! Never had this before and have been reading all the good advice on this site about what to do about it regarding medication and cleaning...going to be busy few weeks it seems!

Anyway, I was wondering what happens tomorrow regarding school as obviously I won't be able to get the medication until he is in school. I will of course tell them but is he allowed to go?

yes is allowed to go. Remind him about hand washing after going to the loo etc.

Good for you for telling the class teacher, I did with my DD and teacher seemed surprised I told her - but I think they shoudl be told.

Is a part of childhood unfortunately - think something like 40% of under 10s get them (my DD fairly frequently so it seems )

just checked and DS2 got them as well!

thanks for that PandaG. What are the key things I should be doing regarding washing and also telling them to do?

my ds1 recently had them, 8yo. meds work well, emphasise to him that he needs to wash his hands well, I gave my dses a small bottle of antibacterial hand-gel (not the stuff with alcohol in tho) which lives in their lunchbags and they quite reliably use before lunch now, also having washed their hands before.
Just do good brainwashing about handwashing after toilet and before touching mouth/face, oh and NO ITCHING 'DOWN THERE' ds1 ended up wearing two pairs of boxers 'to remind himself'

do we all need seperate towels?

OP posts:
futurity · 24/11/2009 21:51

also do the kids need to stop sharing a bath?

yes to separate towels, and we worked bath time so that the two who didn't have the threadworms went in and then ds1 who did have em went in after.

gigglewitch · 24/11/2009 21:54

if they've both got em then I don't know if it matters... they will be well drowned anyhow won't they

update: organised prescription first thing to be picked up later in the day. Took them to school and told the teacher and receptionists about it. They then phoned up later in the day asking more questions about it and then phoned up just before lunch asking us to take them home until they had actually started the treatment. Fair enough I suppose but did go against what we had read all over the place to "carry on as normal with more hygiene measures." Kids thought it was most amusing coming home early but we didn't go into details with them..just talked about "bugs" as they would probably freak if we told them the gory details!

I have been cleaning like a mad thing and we now all have individual coloured towels (again which they love!). Unfortunately the washing machine decided to blow up just as it was in the middle of my first epic washing session. Thankfully the engineer is already booked for Friday and a friend finished the major washing for me.

More random questions..do I need to wash all the soft toys they sleep with? Also do I need to be particularly careful with tooth brushes as my DH is obsessing about us each having separate toothpaste

My DD has had them only last week ....well think she did , took her to docs as she had very itchy Bum and girly bits but only at night she would be fine in the day but come night i would be up half the night running cool baths and putting cream from docs on ..( which made it worse)

Doc didnt suggest worms at all the little buggers , said was prob just sore from poss not wiping enough and gave me some cream to try ...

wasnt till i chatted to a friend , who then suggested TW as her little DD had similar symptoms and the one that was so identical was the fact was happening only at night ..
I went to chemist spoke to lady there who said it sounded like it and gave me tablets for her to take , i was a bit worried incase it wasnt that , but almost 2 weeks on and scratch and sore free nights must have been them although never did see any ...( thank goodness) got to give another dose this weekend to be sure to kill them off..

next time i see my doc i will let them know ....

thank goodness for my friend telling me of it may have carried on alot longer ..
