My DD1 (4 next month) is a very sensitve young lady - she has many phobias and becomes paralysed with fear and hysterical about many things - dogs, traffic, beetles are currently topping the list. When I took her for her boosters in the summer she became so hysterical that the nurse and I had to pin her to the floor while another nurse injected her. My DD screamed and screamed and kicked and bit us and had bruises on her arms and legs after from being restrained. Basically it was very very traumatic. When it was over I said I'm sorry that was so horrible for you but now you don't have to have any more injections until you're twelve (when the next boosters are due). Maybe that was the wrong thing to say but I didn't want her to start refusing to leave the house or to go to the doctor in case she was having more injections. And it made her feel alot better. She talks alot about the injections and how much they hurt and says 'but now I don't have to have any more until I'm 12'and seems really pleased. Now I've heard that under 5's are to be vaccinated for swine flu. I'm not against the vaccination per se - I've had it myself. But whilst I am terrified of DD1 getting swine flu and dying...there is a much greater risk of her becoming peramanently frightened and scared and refusing to go to the doctor or dentist and never trusting me again. What do I do???
