Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) - anyone know anything about it?

My sister has been ill for months now and having ruled out TB, cystic fibrosis and pneumonia, she has now been diagnosed with bronchiestasis and ABPA.

I understand that neither are curable but can you lead a 'normal' life with them? Or is she going to feel pretty rubbish on and off for ever?

Any info gratefully received.

Yes, it could be caused by what is known as sick building syndrome, in the home or workplace. I am a victim, as well as many celebs. Sounds like her immune system is very low, has she been on long-term antibiotics?

The only context on this I have come across was a complication of leukemia treatment, where immune system is v. low.

I don't quite know how she got it - I think she's had bronchiestasis for years and then she got a chest infection. It might actually be connected with her over-exuberant mixing of her compost which seems a bit of a bizarre way of getting very ill but is a likely cause.

Can you lead a pretty normal life once the steroids have got it under control? Or is she going to be pretty weak and frail for ever?
