has anyone else had it and know how long it will last? I've been given antibiotics, diclofenac and codeine, but have no idea how long it will take to work - anyone able tell me more before I am overwhelmed with the urge to google (which is usually a Bad Idea, is it not?!)

My mum's had Bacterial pneumonia since July. She's been hospitalised twice with it and is still ABs. Take it easy and REST.

Oh your poor thing Much sympathy. I haven't had anything that bad for many many years but when I was younger my athsma caused me endless bouts of pleurisy and bronchitis. Ouch ouch ouch!

alypaly · 23/11/2009 14:49

took me about three months to get better....and then longer to feel absolutely normal..was just wacked out all the time.

was off work for 2.5 months,as a result of not taking the time off when i should have done. It made me really ill and the pain when i breathed in was awful.

teatotal, very interesting indeed - had also been mentioned by a colleague. We don't have enough ventilation in the school, and approx half of the classrooms are on the inside of the building, thus having no outside window. Will have to read some more. Thank you!

Do not go to work.

The antibiotics will clear up the pneumonia pretty swiftly provided they are strong enough. Only once the bacterial infection has gone, should you consider working again.

As for the pleurisy - take pain relief. Hopefully this will resolve itself over time.

If you overdo it and don't look after yourself - you will end up hospitalised and on weeks and weeks of antibiotics. Speaking from experience here!

Eat lots, sleep lots, don't exert yoursef too much and drink plenty of fluids to help your immune system.

Hi again, There are a lot of sites about sick schools add toxic mold or hidden mold to your search. Millions of real life stories too.

gigglewitch I haven't read the whole thread but go back to bed and stay there. I have had this - it bloody hurts - I was at college at the time, and sat in bed and cried a lot because I couldn't go home (no home to go to - parents were abroad ). If you let the painkillers fool you into thinking you feel better it will get worse and you will end up in hospital. If you take the bugs seriously and give yourself and the AntiB's a chance to deal with them you should be up and about(ish) in a week - 10 days, IMHO.

Hi, re your google search...check out pleurisy plus indoor air pollution. In the book get well soon-remove the cause the effect will astound you by United Authors, there is a teacher who gives her story which sounds familar. How are you feeling?
