Yes, have had several. With the sedation you will probably be aware that something is going on, my most recent one I can recall them suctioning my mouth and me gagging but I wasn't in pain and I wasn't fully aware. It was more like I was asleep and having a very vivid dream about having a camera stuck down my throat!

Afterwards I felt fine, spent about half an hour in recovery and then went back to my room, had a little rest on the bed and was up and out after in just over an hour and a half and that included waiting for results, eating a sarnie and seeing consultant (was private). Throat felt a little scratchy but apart from that felt absolutely normal.

You'll be fine

My mum had two in the summer. The first one she chose not to be sedated for and she said it was one of the most painful experiences of her life. The second one, therefore, she wanted sedation. She told me she was lying on the trolley waiting to go in and it seemed to be taking a long time. A nurse appeared and mum said "when am I going in then?", to which the nurse replied "Bless you, you're all done, you'll be going home in a little while."

Sedation was wonderful. She had no idea at all.

Like Ewe, her throat was little sore afterward, but the matron on the ward told her to drink the original red can coke as it had anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. She was fine. You'll be fine. Relax and enjoy, as it were!

The sedation will work for you; it works for everyone else, so why would it not work for you?

Take some deep breaths; have a reality check; relax.

I had a dream DURING my sedation. I dreamt I thumped the Dr. However the Dr assured me I didn't! So I guess I wasn't really aware at all of what was going on, other than the needle prick at the beginning!

as everyone has said, the sedation SHOULD work. Having said that I have had 3 endoscopies this year and am awaiting a 4th. I seem to be a bit of a tough nut to crack though and each time have had to be given heavier doses of sedation to keep me still.

See if they will give you the throat spray as well. It tastes vile - apparently its meant to be like bananas (?!) - but will help numb your throat so you are less aware of the tube.

You will feel pretty drowsy afterwards but the good thing is that you get to hear the results straight away provided of course they haven't had to take biopsies. If you are having sedation you will need someone to pick you up afterwards so it would be ideal if they could be with you whilst you get the results as you might not remember everything that is said.

good luck with it all, it should be fine, I think I'm just the exception to the rule! I will posting a new thread myself on here when I get the date through for my next endoscopy so watch this space!
