I have just had my 7th child in 11 years.

I have always suffered with hideous periods. Always long, very painful, irregular.

The pill used to control it until i was taken off Femodene when i was 19 as my Dad suffers from DVT's.

I was pregnant at 21 and have pretty much been pregnant or BF since.

Had the Mirena coil fitted after dc3, it was removed after i bled continually for 6 months.

I have been to the Doc and explained my ishoos, he put me on Cerazette 3 weeks ago. I had just finished my 1st period since dd2 was born 10 months ago.

I got another period after 2 weeks and have been bleeding ever since. Am on day 11 now.

It is not going to work is it? I am doomed. I have tried so many pills.

The Doc would not put me on the combined pill as i have a DVT risk and suffer from migraines. 2 strikes and you are OUT.

My Mum and her Mum both ended up with a hysterectomy (my Mums at age 32)

I don't want that

I am too young > (am 32)

Is there anything that will work?

You poor thing, that sounds really shit.

Have you tried the implant/patch/injection too?

largeginandtonic · 19/11/2009 20:48

Thanks Ewe.

I have not BUT am afraid of inections and had too many friends tell me terrible things about them. Also if they mess my body up it can take months, even years to get it back to normal.

Although i suppose that may be a preferable messed up compared to my normal

you need a gynae referral to look for the cause of the awful periods

they can offer other treatments plus contraceptive options

largeginandtonic · 19/11/2009 20:58

The Doc took some bloods when i went for the pill.

I have asked for a referal. I am hoping the list is not endless.

My sister is 23 and had her gynae referal this year. She had a laparoscopy and it showed up some endometriosis on her left ovary. She is psychotic at period time. We all stay well back.

I would ask for a gynae referral. Blood tests and internal ultrasounds etc would not pick up endometriosis if it is there.

You should be properly investigated by a gynae to see if endo and or fibroids are present. I would now be insisting that you are referred to a specialist gynae.

Yours is not a case for the GP to try and mess around with by prescribing cerazette. The symptoms are only being addressed here, its the CAUSE that needs to be properly established.

Your symtoms sounds awfully indicative of endometriosis to me. It can also be herediatary. BTW a hyst for endometriosis if this is present is not really an option although it is usually diagnosed through laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

Thanks Attila

I have had to be put on maor doses of eostrogen (i think) in the past when a period would just not stop. It has been a month before the bleeding halted. Is that a sign of endo?

It is so unfair.

My dh has been away at sea for 6 months, he comes home tomorrow and i am fecking bleeding. Apols for tmi but it is so depressing

Please do not apologise; the more info people have the more someone is likely to say, "yes I have this problem too".

Endometriosis can also be "fuelled" by endo; it is very much estrogen dependent.

I would certainly be insisting to your GP that you are referred asap to a gynae specialist. Do not take no for an answer, your problem needs proper management.

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2009 13:51

Muppet spelt estrogen wrong!

Could have been progesterone i suppose. Was a few babies ago

I will be phoning to chase my blood results on Monday and asking for another appointment. Hopefully he will refer me then. I will probably need something to stop the bleeding again if it is still going strong

No wonder i am always pregnant! It is almost preferable.

Lord, insist on that referral!!

Agree completely that just prescribing the conraceptive pill here isn't nearly enough! For one thing, there are lots of other things they can try that have nothing to do with the pill.

If you get no joy from your GP, either change GP or go to a family planning session. Getting the opinion of another medical professional can sometimes be sanity saving when they tell you there is something wrong! Also, they often appear to solve a problem, because they're looking at everything all together with fresh eyes rather than having had it ongoing for them for years.
