Can anyone suggest any remedies for thrush that you can do at home as wont get to a doctor for a few days and dont find the overthe counter stuff very effective..

I always used natural youghurt, but was reading the other day it's only effective if you eat it. It was cooling though.

Thanks, I'll give that a go!

My advice was the opposite! Dip a clean tampon in live yogurt and pop it into your nether region. Leave it a bit and then take it out and chuck it away.
Best not to share the yogurt with anyone!
Also was advised to take probiotics to replenish and strengthen the gut as quite often thrush == candida.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

A clove of garlic wrapped and tied in a piece of muslin and inserted is said to be very good. Change a couple of times a day. Also wash/dab with a pad of cotton wool dipped in vinegar/water solution on the outer area. That is very soothing and balancing.

Drastically cut down on any sugary food including fruit, and maybe also any yeasty food like bread. Probiotics may help. Live yoghurt can help either end! Grapefruitseed extract is supposed to help but probably only available from a healthfood shop - and I've never tried it myself.

Definitely a fan of the grapefruit seed extract. It worked for baby and I when I had breastfeeding thrush. We bought Biocidin tablets (for me) and drops (for baby) but there are other brands/makes out there.

Exactly what MamanCochon said. Get some decent probiotics.

Avoid baths (any soap can really irritate), stop using tampons, only wear cotton knickers, be very, very careful using soap (get a special ph-balanced one for the exact purpose) or don't use soap for a while.

If you don't find that the yogurt nor the over the counter stuff works, you will probably have to see the doctor. Have you tried giving the surgery a ring? The doctor might agree to to ring you back and arrange a prescription that a pharmacy can pick up for you. It's worth a try!

Diet is really key to this, no sugar including fruit, and if you can cut down/out carbs for a few days (especially refined carbs) it will really give you a headstart. Lots of yogurt (plain!) they say helps too.

I have got rid of candida this way without having to see a doctor at all.
