Bad Pelvic Floors - exercising

Can anyone help me. I have just had my 2nd child and am wanting to start exercising again.

Sorry if TMI however I can't even stop my pee for a second let alone have a little jog without having an accident.

Can anyone recommend solution (sorry if that sounds stupid) apart from the obviously exercises that I am doing but will take longer to succeed than i'm willing to wait.

I remember someone mentioning once that they wore black tightish tracksuit bottoms and it didn't show anything!!! I'm by no means small so bit scared by the word tight!!!

Any advice muchly appreciated.

swimming and pilates are preferable exercises if pelvic floor is damaged

Hi,

Hope you are getting on well with the exercises. I had problems with a weak pelvic floor after my first baby which persisted so that sometims I was leaking when sneezing. I got some advice and help from a friend who works at a women's health clinic called Tonicity www.toniciy.eu in London who might be able to help you too. Are you doing the exercises enough times a day? I had to do mine 6 times a day. I also had biofeedback treatment which helped me to work and strengthen the right muscles and some abdominal exercises.

Good luck!

I'm seeing an obs physio for numerous problems, one being weak pelvic floor muscles. Last time she mentioned the biofeedback thingy... what on earth is that, can someone explain please? She didn't use it last time cos she said it would be too painful for me, but might use it next time. It sounds sore.

Pebbles, sorry for hi-jacking your thread. You are not alone in this problem. Keep up the pelvic exercises, I have to be strict with myself to do them. If tight black leggings scare you, how about pantyliners?

xx

Hi all,

Pinkmarshmallow,

Hope your appointments have been going well. Biofeedback should not be at all painful! It involves using a vaginal probe (which is a bit bigger than a large tampon but is tapered so it's not uncomfortable at all!). What happens is that the probe records the pelvic floor muscle activity and displays it on a screen so you can see when the muscles are working. This means you can see if you are doing the exercises properly and find your maximum strength and the 'halfway' strength for performing holds. Hope that helps.

Pebbles77,

Hope you are getting on okay. I was taught to do the holds which Hanaflower mentions (I aim for 10 seconds but haven't quite got there yet) for 10 times, six times a day. Also quick 1 second squeezes for 10 times, six times a day. Hope that helps.
