Waiting for a taxi to get dd to A&E

Because she has pushed a pea up her nose. In fact, she pushed 2 peas up her nose and I can only get one out.

She says they "fell upwards".

This is going to seem funny later on, isn't it.

Poor you and dd!

dd stuck some material up her nose a few weeks back. We were in the car on the way home from a kids interactive museum and she was tired and cuddling a piece of frayed material which had come from her bear comforter when she suddenly started screameing. Cue blood oozing down nostril and hysterical child. Got home but no way could I have reached it, even assuming we could have found our tweezers. It was a Bank Holiday so we had to go up to the A and e at local Childrens's hospital - took no time at all to get it out and no truama to dd but I'd have visions of her needing sedating all the way there.

Hope all is well with your dd. My brother used to do it all the time as a youngster and the local pharmacist was able to extract it with long handled tweezers. Good luck.

Marina · 20/06/2005 11:48

Ds did this on the eve of our holiday with a dried bean at nursery.
It will seem funny later and the evil but painless plastic tweezers with spikes on (to grab the peas) will ensure she never does that one again WWB

Xena · 20/06/2005 11:58

DD did this with bread she thought it was funny until we couldn't get it out as it had gone soggy and got stuck! Hope you get on alright at the hospital

throckenholt · 20/06/2005 12:02

ds1 pushed a sprig of broccoli up his nose once ! It came out of it's own accord about an hour later

jackeroo · 20/06/2005 12:09

my mum did exactly the same thing when she was little...and never forgot. needless to say she lived to tell the tale years later...

hope she's not suffering too much...

DS2 does this all the time with his finger. It's never actually got stuck yet, thankfully

sparklymieow · 20/06/2005 12:50

My brother put a marbal up his........ ehem!! when he was little........

tortoiseshell · 20/06/2005 12:53

Hope she's ok. Ds did this a year or two ago, and the experience whilst being totally painless meant he has never done it again - we had a very long wait, and then the nurse had a long spike to spear the pea on. I think it's quite common!

jambo1707 · 20/06/2005 13:03

Fell upwards cant help but smile

Hope you aint waiting too long hun

Caligula · 20/06/2005 13:05

Oh bugger. Thanks for posting this, it has reminded me that I must mention this to dd - she's exactly the type who would stick things up her nose!

Hope all goes well at the hospital.

Well, yes; at least it was something healthy (which is exactly what the nurse said!). My dd was hysterical by the time the taxi came, but more because she knew she'd done something silly when she's normally so sensible. We were seen pretty quickly, although it took a good half an hour to get the pea out because it was so far up her nose. The nurse had a funnel that she shoved up dd's nose then used a huge long metal stick and a pair of thin pliers to try and get it out; she couldn't shift it and was going to get a doctor to admit dd to have to removed under anaethetic, but I begged her to try one more time (wimpy mum ). She got dd to blow her nose, which just shifted it enough for the nurse to be able to grab it with the pliers. It hurt dd quite a bit but she was really brave, and hopefully the thought that she might have to go through that again will put her off shoving peas where she shouldn't in the future!

I was going to cook some for tea tonight, but I think I might throw the bag onto the compost heap instead!

Awww poor mini WWW... glad you made the nurse try again though!

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2005 13:40

WWB what an ordeal hopefully it will have put DD off from now on

QueenFlounce · 20/06/2005 13:40

Aw poor wee lamb..... a lesson learned I hope!

fastasleep · 20/06/2005 13:40

Must stop putting WWW. Wickedwaterwitch will come along and go 'huh?'

RTKangaMummy · 20/06/2005 13:42

I have just thought why do they not have a "sucker" thingy that can suck things out

IIRC you can get them for babies when they have colds with bunged up noses

LIZS · 20/06/2005 13:43

Glad the episode has had a happy ending. She probably won't do it again in a hurry !

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 13:45

My dh actually suggested that I stick a straw up her nose and suck, Kanga - but the pea was so high up that it wouldn't come out that way.

Ah well, hopefully the lesson has been learned ... (fingers crossed)!

@ Mr WWB

WigWamBam · 20/06/2005 13:51

Yes, he thought he was being sooooo helpful, although it's ever so easy to be wise when you're on the other end of the phone and can't see the chaos

Is it all calm now?
