Confusion over swine flu prevention

I went to a play group the other day and was surprised to be asked to take my ds's shoes off to reduce the risk of swine flu. The playgroup in question is not asking children and parents to wash hands before snack time so it seems a bit odd. Now I'm not an expert and I may well be wrong but I didn't think it could be spread by your shoes and if it can then surely we should all be taking our shoes off in these situations not just children? Does anyone know if this just a case of someone going slightly over the top or is it true?

They are barking, surely! It would make much more sense to get everyone to wash hands on arrival and before snacktime. Maybe even after snacktime.

Agreed. That sounds completely misguided and unnecessary.

Unless they got it confused with foot & mouth disease!

That is hilarious. Bit of a worry though that people can't grasp basic hygiene rules [SF lives in hands nose and mouth not very often shoes!]

I think it's a nice idea - makes the group more, cosy
