Do you know what I am talking about? Basically do you wash your ladies area on the inside as well as the outside? I know it's a bit gruesome but it's one of those things you can't just drop into a conversation. I do.

i only used water... wont again coz i now feel like a freak!

franke · 15/06/2005 12:32

No there's no need and even just water could upset the pH balance in there.

northerner · 15/06/2005 12:33

Erm How do you get the water up there then?

SoupDragon · 15/06/2005 12:34

Doesn't this follow on nicely from the thread where we discussed leaking water after a bath? So my answer is "not deliberately".

Lonelymum · 15/06/2005 12:35

No

soapbox · 15/06/2005 12:35

Northener - with a contraption that looks like a mini watercan with a long spout on it

And no I don't!

WigWamBam · 15/06/2005 12:36

Northerner, you can buy special douching equipment to squirt it up there.

The vagina is self-cleanising, and even douching with water can upset the balance and damage the lining of the vagina, leaving you open to infection.

jane313 · 15/06/2005 12:36

I read a thread on here about someone doing it with vinegar to help conceive a girl. it would worry me that ti would do some sort of harm.

Flossam · 15/06/2005 12:37

SD, I was thinking exactly the same!

northerner · 15/06/2005 12:37

Oh I see. Where do you by these from then? Not seen any in my local ASDA I must say.

Seems a strange thing to do IMO.

Heathcliffscathy · 15/06/2005 12:41

nothing freakish about it, just ill advised. i used to get thrush a lot when younger (TMI sorry!) and was advised not to mess about up there as is self cleansing. Also advised not to use bubble baths etc...

I think I probably started to do it when I used to have periods (don't anymore due to Depo injection) and didn't feel clean unless I'd washed inside too b4 using another tampon. Sorry to be sooooooo basic.

no - wouldn't dream of it. And I wouldn't use any of those feminine deoderizers either, I used to work in a chemist and the only people who bought them were elderly ladies.

NomDePlume · 15/06/2005 13:51

no. Frankly, it never occurred to me that it might be an idea.

hellomama · 15/06/2005 15:10

No, but i know that a lot of women do it. It really isn't good idea though as the others are already said, it will leave you prone to alsorts of unwanted bacterial infections. The vagina is totally self-cleaning and there is no need for it. Vaginas are amazing in fact.

AngelCakeUmm · 15/06/2005 15:15

No !!

expatinscotland · 15/06/2005 15:20

no

expatinscotland · 15/06/2005 15:22

Countess
I'm American and have never done it. Nor has any American woman I've known. There's a lot of public education out there that's made it clear that douching upsets the pH levels in the vagina. A bit like colonics - totally unnecessary.

PiccadillyCircus · 15/06/2005 15:27

I don't

Blu · 15/06/2005 15:36

No.

In canada they sell douching thingies in supermarkets alongside the toothbrushes etc.
