i havent been on mumsnet for a couple of weeks, and i dont know if some of you remember the worrying attacks i was having (funny vision, left side of body going numb, left side of face numb, numb tongue and not being able to speak)?they thought it was migraine with aura, and was also tested for sticky blood syndrome, i have had around 6 in the past 8 months, and was refered to a neurologist, well i had a ultrasound scan of my arteries in my neck, and has showed up with a signicant narrowing in one of the arteries, so the attacks have been mini strokes my G.P rang me this morning with the results, i have to take 75mg of aspirin a day starting today, and will be made a neurologist appointment asap, i am only 25 and i am very worried and frightened , just though i would let you know, and also to see if anyone has any experience or info on this? tia xx

lilsmum - sorry to hear this news but at least you now know what the problem is. Hope it goes well with the neurologist.

On a more practical level, and this may seem crude but have you got critical illness cover with your mortgage/loans as I think some classify "stroke" as one of the main illnesses. In reality you have had a stroke (albeit a mini one) - just thought it was worth mentioning as it may help to think of something else - sorry if i have offended

lilsmum · 16/06/2005 23:07

MG...no not offended at all , i dont have a mortgage (we renting at mo) have got a loan, and not sure on that but will check it out, never thought of that, thanks xx

Sorry to hear about your health problem, Lilsmum. I guess, trying to be positive, that at least it's been found in time for them to take action. Best wishes.

jackeroo · 18/06/2005 19:33

very sorry to hear about your health worries lilsmum - i remember hearing about your poor daughter with gastro some months ago when my DS had ended up in hospital with it around the same time. sounds like you're having a bad year and this is the last thing you need - just wanted to send best wishes...x

Puff · 18/06/2005 19:57

lilsmum, so sorry to hear of your troubles. DH (a cardiologist) says that there a few interventional radiologists that can sort out your blockage by angioplasty. Briefly, they thread a balloon from either an artery in your neck, wrist or leg up into your carotid artery. The balloon is then inflated to 'blow open' the blockage and then a stent (wire basket) deployed to hold open the area. This is how similiar blockages in the cardiac or renal arteries are treated.

It is normal for that blcokage to be treated by surgery in the UK, but angioplasty is becoming more popular. DH says that in his opionion, this approach would be his perference if it was him.

CAT me if you like. Good luck

lilsmum · 19/06/2005 15:42

thanks highlander, i have CAT'd you, although you may wish you never said that with all the questions i have asked lol xxx
