Anyone had any surgery on their downstairs region? :-)

Am having a paraurethral cyst removed in a couple of months time. V worried about it, even though it is only a day surgery.

Dr doesn't know if I will be left with incontinence problems until he "gets in there"

V embarassed and stressed about it.

Any help or advice gratefully received.

Bump again. Ironic since the bump in my fan fan is what I am having removed tomorrow!

I am shitting myself - not literally just yet but very worried about urinary incontinence following my operation.

Please please if anyone has had any kind of downstairs operation please come and put my mind at rest.

I am very upset and embarassed about this, and this is not the kind of thing loads of people have experience of.

What if it doesn't work any more? What if all the normal sensations one has don't work properly and I won;t enjoy sex any more? What if I have permanent incontinence?

I am only 31 I can't take having to wear Tena or not being able to run for the rest of my life.

Doesn't sound fun PippL. Have you had a look at the ragged bits thread? There's quite a lot of grim stuff from very bad injuries but you might be able to find some advice from some of those who have already had their surgery.

Lots of people have it actually, just nobody ever talks about it! Not that it makes it better but please don't feel as if you are a wierdo.

Sounds bloody scary. My friend had some surgery oop there and they said the same to her. She had some short term problems with scarring causing fecal incontinence and they ended up botoxing her bum so it gave the area a chance to rest and recover if you see what I mean. It was a complete recovery within nine months btw.

Stress incontinence can be because they damage the pelvic floor during surgery - which is treatable with further surgery or physiotherapy.

Clearly you are not having this surgery for fun. The surgeons will be doing their very best to prevent further damage but they do need to warn you. But it's a risk and like all risks in surgery the majority do not actually happen.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for responding. Just what I needed to hear before my surgery tomorrow.

Will come back and update on how it went.

Thanks
