If it's getting worse then you need to see someone as soon as you can. Try the GPs again later and see if you can get an emergency appointment.

flic23 · 14/06/2005 14:50

going back is better than endeing up with a scared kidey or loss of funtion and if you think its sore now god help you

expatinscotland · 14/06/2005 14:52

If it hurts to walk you need to see someone straightaway. My sister blew off an infection b/c she was returning from holiday and didn't want to mess with insurance forms (this was in the US where they don't have universal healthcare coverage). She had blood in her urine and wound up on a drip in hospital for 2 days.

tamum · 14/06/2005 14:54

It doesn't sound terribly like a sprain with the sickness and hot feeling to be honest. There's only one person who can tell you though and you know who he/she is, don't you?

SaintGeorge · 14/06/2005 14:57

Please go to GP asap essbee. I tried to ignore the pain last time it happened to me (fed up of doctors) and ended up in hospital for a week.

The GP can do a dipstick test to confirm infection and give you antibiotics, then the lab will confirm the exact infection and your antibiotics might get changed if need be to something more specific.

expatinscotland · 14/06/2005 15:16

So I take it essbee's at the GPs now, waiting for an emergency appointment? Or perhaps speaking with NHSDirect so they can call ahead at the minor emergency unit and she can see a doctor asap?

lunachic · 14/06/2005 15:45

just thought id mention homeopath but everyone is right a kidney infection really should be treated by the docs its v painful and gets worse fairly quickly
hope youre ok essbee

expatinscotland · 14/06/2005 16:01

Indeed, a kidney infection is something you really want to have medically treated asap due to the risk of blood poisoning or permanent impairment of the kidney.

Keep us posted, essbee!

Bump/nag to essbee to get to the doc's as soon as she can - plenty of time left for the chemist to fill the prescription!

i'm glad you got it checked and i hope you'll feel better soon!
i find a hot water bottle/heated wheat bag helps to soothe the pain.

i got diagnosed with a kidney and bladder infection today so i know it can be painfull - hope you get it sorted!

Flossam · 15/06/2005 19:02

Essbee, I had to go to the the docs for exactly the same thing yesterday! I kept going all the time on Monday, then woke up tues with pain in my right side, where my kidney should be. I had a temp and the area felt hot too. I've been put on antibiotics, and feel fine - I think that going on a drinking fliuds mission helped flush it out, but the antibiotics will make sure it clears out. Yes you do need to go in short. I'm a nurse, and I wouldn't try and treat myself at home with this. Hope you feel better soon.
