2 year old with swine flu symptoms

My almost 2 year old DD had a temperature nearly 2 weeks ago, and was then left with a cold that has lasted until now.
I took her to the Doctors on Friday because she wasnt getting any better and the temperature had come back. They didnt mention swine flu, just said she had a virus and even though her ears and throat were pink she didnt need antibiotics.
Im now worried that she has swine flu. Two of her cousins have similar symptoms (there sisters) and she spends a lot of time with one of them, who has been diagnosed with a chest infection.
Her symptoms are temperature, cough, runny nose. Checked them on that symptom checker and they said to get her seen by a doctor, but she was seen yesterday and they didnt even mention swine flu. Not sure what to do. Any advice much appreciated x

Well, if she has swine flu, the treatment would be Tamiflu -- which only works if you take it in the first day or 2 after symptoms appear. So it's too late for that.

And otherwise, while she's ill she's not so ill she needs to go into hospital and have strong anti-virals (with negative side effects). So if it were me I'd assume it could be anything and just get on with life.

Swine Flu is just another strain of influenza. It is no worse than general flu that people get every year. The reason swine flu has reached epidemic status is only because it is so easily transmitted between humans. The media is very responsible for scaremongering in this situation too, as they publish the few deaths that have occurred due to swine flu, but fail to mention how many people die from regular flu. If we compared data, we would soon realise that swine flu is not as harmful as general flu.
My recommendation for your 2 year old, would be to feed them plenty of fresh fruit and veg (especially oranges, grapes, broccoli). If you can get out, that's great, as any sunlight creates vitamin D in our bodies and vitamin D is essential to absorb vitamin C which we all know helps our immune system fight off colds/flu. As it is winter maybe ask a pharmacist if there is any child safe Vit D supplements.
Hope this helps in some way!

I've got a 2yr 9 months son and he is suffering from a temperature of 37.50 and has a cough and running nose. It only seems to get worse when nightime comes but as we are struggling to get him to drink because he only sip occassionally on his juice, i think that he is now getting enough fluids. We tok him twice to doctors and once to hospital but they have said that it is just Flu. But as hearing so many deaths from Swine Flu i'm getting very scared and worried now. He is still playing with his toys but very miserable of a night. What could i do to get rid of this as he has had this for 1 week now. Help?

My family had swine flu all week, but are all on the mend now. We caught it from friends who have also spent the week in bed with it.

We found that alternating calpol, to reduce temp, and nurofen, for pain, was the best way to deal with it.

It was bad, particularly for the younger ones, but NOT as bad as I had feared, 2 of my dc have asthma, and they were fine, the cough was easily controlled.

My 5 yo dd, was really knocked out, she got it on monday, and today is the first day she has got dressed. She spent the week in bed, watching dvds and dozing.

Poshpaws, I feel for you, try not to worry, it is VERY unlikely your ds will be seriously ill with this. Take care

Don't forget if your child is not drinking lollies are a great way to get liquid in.
I freeze my own from squash or juice and they tend to go for them even with zero appetite ;)
