I'd be grateful for some website recommendations for further reading. Thanks, Dinny

This site is pretty good- includes manufacturers warning sheets www.vaccine-info.com/

However for a summary of the arguments I'd recommend the book "the vaccination bible" published by what doctors don't tell you. Tbe have a website. The nice thing about the book is that all claims are referenced so you can check them. They have also published an MMR update (the Private Eye MMR special is worth a read as well)

No further reading ideas (although you could have a look at the previous discussions on mumsnet about mmr for both points of view and some interesting debate!) but to answer the question in your thread title, no, my ds hasn't had it and won't be having it. He's 5.5

one more link I've thought of:

osiris.sunderland.ac.uk/autism/vaccine.htm

Thanks - have found other threads about mmr now.

DD had her MMR two weeks ago at aged 13 months. The jab itself was fine although she did have a nasty reaction 2 days later (normally 7 days after). High temperature, fever, off food, etc for about 11-12 days. She is now okay but this is something you could look out for,

Ghosty · 26/05/2003 21:08

My DS had it at 13 months ... I wasn't sure about it to start with but the week before he had his appointment I met a lady whose daughter had had measles at the age of 4 and became 'brain damaged' (her words) and now (at the age of 40) lives in a home and needs constant care.
At the time I hadn't met anyone who could give me conclusive proof about the links with MMR and autism but I had met someone who had proof of what measles can do ... that is what helped me make my decision.
Not sure if I would do it again though ... next time I would have to read up about it all over again ...

nobby · 26/05/2003 21:43

My DS had it at the normal time (can't even remember when this was) as we weighed up the risks and decided there was more likelihood of problems from measles or mumps than the jab (especially with boys). It's a personal assessment though... He didn't have any reaction at all and because everything went well for us, we now have peace of mind. Because of my experience I'll do it for the next one too.

Claireandrich · 26/05/2003 22:10

Just to add to my earlier message: even though DD had a very nasty reaction to the MMR, if we have another baby we would have it done again (given same info/research) but maybe a little later when the baby was a bit older and stronger,

My DS did not have MMR. I work with people with Learning disbilities, a consultant from National Autistic Society told me that he believed there was a link with MMR. Also i think my brother in law has Aspergers syndrome. Did not want to take the chance. DS had single measles vaccination at 15 months. He suffered quite a bit from that. Sickly and upset for days. I am now on waiting list for mumps vaccine.

Jimjams · 27/05/2003 15:42

BTW if anyone has trouble tracking down a mumps vaccine- I reserved and paid for one years ago for ds1. I'm not giving him any more vaccines ever so if you get stuck you're welcome to have his. It's been reserved wth a very lovely private GP in Egham, Surrey. The last time I spoke to him (which was over a year ago) he wasn't taking on any new patients but was still importing vaccine for people who had paid. If anyone gets stuck it might be worth seeing if he'll let you have ds1's.

AnnieMo · 27/05/2003 20:31

My ds has had the measles, jab and was due to have the mumps this week. I have just been told that there is a problem getting it and will be having rubella instead and mumps when available. Does anyone know if it is still possible to get the mumps vaccine and is the problem in supply likely to be a temporary one? DS had no reaction at all to the measles jab - my mother being highly suspicious is convinced that this means that it didn't go into his system and so didn't work - do tell me she is wrong!

Jimjams · 27/05/2003 21:32

AnnieMo- no way of telling. If he had had a measles type reaction it would have told you that it had definitely worked (but not necessarily how long the protection would then last).

Mumos vaccine often seems to hit temporary supply problems. I wouldn't worry about it.

Furball · 28/05/2003 12:39

We're on single jabs too. Just Mumps to go which is due this month, but as already said it's in short supply so it probably wont happen. I've been told that as long as they get either the jab or Mumps before age 7, there shouldn't be a problem. So I'm not too worried about it yet.
