My thread from 6months ago about my conecerns about ds3 was in ;chat' and is gone

I wanted to update as many folks gave me some brilliant support.

DS3 truned 1 a few weeks ago. He sat up around 9 ish months eventually but I could not leave himunattended until around 11 months. At 11 months he began to commando crawl and a few weeks later he began to crawl properly. He is now cruising round the furniture at lightning speed and can stand unaided. He can climb the stairs and thinks he can walk. He is not far off. In terms of gross motor skills, I am no longer worried.

Food is still a HUGE isssue. He is getting better but as with you lovely folk who supported me months ago, I am finding thicker purees are the way o go rather than 'lumps'. He can handle some lumps but I hae to be very careful. He LOVES toast but, despite me persisting, can only handle small parts around the size of my thumb nail, at a time. I am in touch with HV and am asking for a referral to SALT with food specialism.

Follow up with PAeds ins in November where Iwill push food thing. I have watched and watched himand I can't work out whether it is a swallowing thing or a chewing/oro-motor thing or a combination or neither.

Some other gorgeous things about him. I have been doing some baby signing with him (as with his brothers) but have been pushing it with d3 just in case....

He can reliably sign: more, all done, please/thank you, yes, no, DS1, ds2 (both of which he does regulalry when they are at school) and 'love you'

he is fabulous

aw popsy, he sounds like he's doing so well.

don't give up hope on the food thing either. i posted on the last thread and dd2 was on thick purees for what seemed like forever.

have you tried the 'bite/dissolve' like quavers next? our slt recommended and it was a big step for dd2. she eventually went onto 'solids' way past her first birthday and these days eats a normal diet (still has occasional choking episodes but is able to recover herself now).

hope slt brings you some good ideas! lovely to read update.

That all sounds really encouraging - he must be adorable. Hope your follow up appointment goes well.

popsycal · 09/10/2009 20:12

just to add- my keyboard is broken

and we never had any diagnosis - and tbh I have no idea whether there is anything 'wrong' now - but will push food thing in coming weeks with HV and see paed in NOvember as planned

he is gorgeous and such a joy

hi, i didnt see your last thread six months ago but the word digeorge brought me to your thread cos my ds has it.

did you son have tests done to rule it out? i know what you mean when he looks like the characteristics, children with digeorge have very similar features etc.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/10/2009 20:49

Hello popsy glad you are a little less worried about ds3.

slightlycrumpled · 22/10/2009 10:32

Hi Popsycal, I had missed this as have not been around for a while. I am so pleased he is doing well, he sounds delightful .

Baby signing is great, I am pregnant again and will definitely sign with this baby regardless, it will be nice for my DS2 to be able to communicate with him/her.

Good luck at your paeds appointment.

Hi Popsy! Never knew you had been through all this with ds3.
Sounds like he doing super well
You may know or not that my dd has Noonan Syndrome and had swallowing/feeding issues and was non verbal til age 3 but with good understanding, she also had major gross and fine motor delays, plus was very petite.
She is now 7 and is 5* A ok

Your Ds3 sounds on the ball indeed, what a relief for you!
