If you had a very light period, what would be your immediate thought?

Same length as usual but hardly anything there?

And you are nearly 37 and it is really really unlikely that you are pregnant?

Are they usually very regular? Mine can be very erratic, sometimes heavy sometimes light, so personally I would count my lucky stars!

WinkyWinkola · 03/10/2009 10:28

Well, funny you should say that - I had very light periods when I'd actually conceived my first two children but not this current pregnancy. They came at the same time as they were scheduled to and lasted as long as usual but were very light.

Prunerz · 03/10/2009 10:31

No I'm regular as anything. There's nothing abnormal about this one except, er, quantity. (Sorry, it's a bit gross, isn't it?)

Winky...eek.

I was very very unlikely to be pregnant (have fertility issues and we only did it once last month) I am now 7 weeks pregnant

With DD I had light periods for the first 8 weeks.

WinkyWinkola · 03/10/2009 10:37

Oh. So it wouldn't make you happy being pg just now?

Well, you know, it could be that you're really tired/run down or just one of those things.

Do a test. Put your mind at ease. Hope you get the news you want!

Prunerz · 03/10/2009 10:41

Well it would be fine, really - weird but fine!
oopsacoconut we have fertility issues too - hence why it would be weird.

Might go to the pound shop for a pack of tests

If you haven't been using contraception then you could be pregnant. Fact. Buy test.

If not, then blip in hormones due to stress or illness, or start of peri meno if you have infertility probs as well.

Treeesa · 03/10/2009 11:08

Have you been on a really new diet? This will often result in very light or irregular periods and if you are suddenly doing lots of exercise i.e. for a marathon this can have the same effect. Other things going on around you can cause stress and anxiety and this can also affect your flow - job moves, home moves, death, divorce etc.

The obvious causes that you've probably already discounted are being on the pill for a long time and obviously as you approach menopause - but 37 seems 10 years too soon although a few people are much earlier than others..

Prunerz · 03/10/2009 11:35

Nah, life as stressful as ever, no more or less.
I think it's peri-menopause, we go early in my family.
Long may it continue being as barely noticeable as that!

I would think 'probably just one of those things, but if I asked MN they would have a million stories of people who were pregnant with the same symptoms'.

Prunerz · 03/10/2009 15:01

Hahaha yes I suppose that's why I started the thread!
