fibroids in uterus

Does anyone know about this? I realise I have to go to the doc but with a newborn it's had to find the time.

I had a c-section two weeks ago and the surgeon asked me if I knew I had two fibroids in my uterus. He said they could cause a problem with an embryo embedding.

I knew I had one when I got pregnant. I also know they can come and go.

Thing is, we want to try again when the baby is 3 months (crazy I know) so I'd like to get an idea of whether I'll need more surgery to remove them (incredibly unappealing prospect right now) or if they could treat them some other way?

Thanks as ever...

Thanks Mrs Merry (ps I like Thierry too)Good luck with your pregnancy

ALypaly - I have refused hysterectomy for similar reasons though I am not menopausal yet - am late 40s.

Think psychologically it would not be the best move for me.

sincitylover
totally agree...its now psychological for me bur unfortunately not in your position of being able to have more children...that would def make me think three times.

sincitylover · 23/09/2009 15:19

well technically I could have more children yes but as a broke single parent with two dcs I don't think that would be a good idea really.

Though admittedly if an accident happened I would have a really hard job making that deicsion because I know what my hear would say.

But from a very young age I have always thought that for me having hysterectomy would be difficult to cope with and it's something to do with loss of feminity and also sexuality. I appreciate that you don't become either asexual or less femininine if you have one but irrationally I would feel both.

Haven't ever met/talked with anyone who felt the same. Many take a no nonsense approach.

heart !!

alypaly · 23/09/2009 15:31

it would make me feel like a eunuch...deep down.I would feel as though my purpose was over although i know it is really...in the sense of childbearing i mean.

I am now a single mum with 2 DS's so i know what broke means...been on my own for 15 years

sincitylover · 23/09/2009 16:18

I've been on my own for three years.

How did you feel about going through the menopause?

alypaly · 23/09/2009 16:29

Hated the fact that biologically my time had come to an end. Wanted to have more children but it never happened and i was single too. I f i had fallen pregnant i would have been delighted.

I battled on with the sweats for 2 years, hanging out of my bedroom window to cool down like some madwoman in the middle of the night.Lying at the patio door in the middle of winter in a sleeping bag. Good job i was single otherwise id have been committed.
My 2 DS's thought i had gone bonkers as the flushes used to come on at the oddest times. It was not unknown for me to sit at the dinner table on a sunday lunch time in just my bra and knickers
Then i decided enuf was enuf and got HRT to try. I HAD ELLEST DUET 2MG ..it was brilliant. Within a week it had helped...stuck it for 4 months and then decided to come off and have been virtually ok since.

Hello,

Can you tell me more about your symptoms.
As l thought l was pregnant, although having endometreosis and pcos, also was sterelized 11 years ago after the birth of my 3rd child.

My body swells and get the feelings of being pregnant, sore breasts, nausea, also kept getting that drawing in feeling inside like when inplantation.

My mother thought l had ovarian cysts, as she has had them. So GP sent me for a pelvic scan.

I went last week and they had to also do an internal scan and was told l have a fibroid.

Now have to wait 7-10 days for GP to get results so can be told what the treatment will be.

Could you tell me what treatment l may be offered.

Also my daughter started her periods April this year, she had a period start 6th Sept, and today now started another, 3 weeks since last.
Do you think l should take her to the GP?

Thanks for any advice you can give me

Belinda

Belinda- do no tpanic!

You might need no treatment at all for our fibroid.

They are not dangerous and are very common. They are only treated if they contribute to heavy periods, or are so big they press on other internal organs.

The symptoms you describe sound more like PMT, TBH, and nothing to do with fibroids.

I have a fibroid which I never knew I had until I saw a new gynae who did an internal as a matter of course.

I have no symptoms and goodness knows how long it's been there.

Don't worry- it's likely youwill not need anything doing to it- and your symptoms are something else.

purplepeony · 26/09/2009 17:19

P.s.- your daughter- periods in the 1st two years can be all over the place- she sounds absolutely normal.

Bel44 · 26/09/2009 22:47

Thankyou purplepeony for getting back to me.
I do have heavy periods with clots and had to be put on iron tablets because of anemia. I am also having problems with my bladder with pressure, having to wee more, including getting up durring the night, and l sometimes leak which is embarrassing. I am also suffering with constipation feel that l want to go but cant its there but unable to get out sorry for (tmi).I also get the feeling of pressure there as if its a contraction in my bottom at times.

Sorry for going into to much detail but l am to embarrassed to say anything to my Dr, who is a man.

Any more advice very much appreciated.

Also thankyou for your reply about my daughter.

Many thanks
Belinda
