Embarrassing itching??? help??!

I have itching on the left side of my vagina to the back (not inside) about 1cm to the left of lips, sometimes it itches so much I scratch until it slighly bleeds- have had it for a long time (on and off for 3 years), asked DH to have a look! he couldn't see anything and said I should go to see dr - hope that makes sense...can anyone help with advice ?? I am desparate, will go to dr - did mention it before but they kind of brushed it off..help !

minxi - probably best to see a doctor, but have you changed any washing powder/fabric conditioner/shower gel or anything in that time? That area can be very sensitive to certain products, especially if you have sensitive skin anyway. Might be worth washing underwear in washing powder for sensitive skin and switching to non-perfumed soaps etc for a bit and see if it makes a difference?

Sounds like it could be lichens sclerosis. The only way to diagnose this for sure though is to see a specialist in GU medicine and have a biopsy taken (not painful). Or could it be recurrent thrush which has never been properly resolved? Have you tried treating it yourself with anything?

I wouldn't wash with coal tar soap though! You shouldn't use any soap at all in the vulval / vaginal area, particularly a soap as harsh as that!

was going to suggest LS but didn't want to worry you but could be something like that the sooner you get it checked the better it must be so painful

what was the name of the dr? was a she a mental irish lady who talked a lot?! if so it sounds like the consultant i worked with. VERY good doctor! LS can be managed with so isn't the end of the world. I would definitely check that it isnt thrush though.

Never heard of lichens sclerosis - sounds a bit scary.... will try to see dr this week. Thanks for advice.
