I had it done about 5 years ago. Went on holiday to India and had it done by a specialist there for around £300.

Had a follow-up appt at Moorfields Eye Hospital on my return to check all was healing well, and it was fine.

Made a massive difference to my life as I was extremely short-sighted before.

No ill efects - I had halos around lights for a few weeks following (at night-time especially), but not very much - in fact I was driving (comfortably and safely) at night 3 days after the op.

Are you thinking of having it done (stupid question...)?

I had mine done at Moorfields and it was really life changing.

Not cheap but then you calculate the amount of money you spend on glasses, contact lenses, options etc and it then doesn't seem to be so high.

I've been thoroughly delighted with the result but I can't tell you how nervous I was getting it done.

Thanks for responses. Yes am thinking about it right now as am fed up with glasses/contacts. My eyes are not too bad so I'm hoping it's not going to cost a small fortune. x

Yes, had it done using Lasik at Optimax in Birmingham 5 years ago along with several members of my family (we did look a picture with our eye patches afterwards!).
Was great, love not having to wear glasses or contact lenses now. None of us have had any problems. Would highly recommend it.

Yes, I had it done a year ago and it's AMAZING!!! I no longer feel like I'm wearing a mask....had glasses since age 11.

I had it done at Moorfields Eye Hospital by Mr. Maurino. Too chicken to go for a cheaper alternative.

Had mine done by Mr Daya at Centre for Sight in East Grinstead (they do also do some surgery in London, I think) and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

People who have it done - what was your prescription before?

Mine is -10.25 in both eyes and I would love to be able to wake up and see, without the fumbling around for glasses, but I think having sight that bad makes me strangely more worried of it going wrong.

If you are that severely myopic, then I'd def go for one of the v good surgeons. The guys at East Grinstead are outstanding, and the nice thing is that the Centre for Sight funds their research work to a large extent. They can also offer a few different methods

My colleague who was -10 had his surgery there, and is very happy with the result, although couldn't be completely corrected.

I second what CMOTdibbler said. I chose Centre for Sight because I have always been utterly paranoid about my eyes and eyesight and their reputation is extremely reassuring - I think I probably would have chickened out of having it done anywhere else. It's an excellent place to go if you are either as paranoid as I am, or if you are a more complicated case (eg, have a prescription as high as yours). My prescription was around -6 with mild astigmatism. Post surgery, my vision is marginally better than the correction I got with glasses, both day and night (everything seems more crisp and clear, somehow - maybe it's just the not having to peer through greasy glasses!).
