broken tooth

my ds of two and a half broke a bit off one of his front teeth this afternoon (coming down the slide a bit too fast!). Doesn't seem to bother him eating wise, but it is sharp and he keeps rubbing it over his lip, making it bleed. Will it just wear down with eating, or should I take him to the dentist - think this might be a bit scary for him!! Any suggestions? Thanks.

It will wear down - both my DSs chipped small corners off a front tooth at around 12months old. However, I'd suggest taking him to the dentist for a look - I tried to with DS1 but he refused to open his mouth, the dentist managed to peer through DS1s lips and said that he reckoned it was fine. It needn't be scarey and he'll probably get a sticker for being brave - my DSs did last week! DS2 is just over 2 and he wasn't freaked out by it at all although.

My oldest three all did this. The only reason number 4 hasn't is that he still can't walk at 26 months. Take him to the dentist just to be sure, but they are reluctant to do anything unless the tooth is causing pain. Ds1 currently has only half a front tooth, because at aged 2 he broke it, and a little bit more breaks off every so often (he's 4 now). Doesn't seem to bother him though
