has anyone else developed a hernia due to childbirth?

Which kind of hernia do you mean? Belly button ; groin or hiatus?

it's kind of above my belly button, and it pushes through if i arch my back. My doctor said its because the muscles have not healed togather properly after my last pregnancy. Now i'm really worried its going to cause problems next time i'm pregnant.

It's not a hiatus hernia - that's something completely different. It's when the top part of your stomach pushes up through your diaphragm causing acid and food reflux.

yeah i didn't think it was a hiatus hernia but didn't know how to change the title of the post. Do you know anything about the type of hernia i might have? It doesn't cause me any pain but i'm just a bit worried it might cause problems later.

I have got one like that, my dr told me to wait until after I had finished having children before going back to see him about having it fixed. Actually I should really see about it as 6 years have passed and I am not having any more.

yeah, my doctor told me that too. So have you been pregnant since having your hernia? did it cause you any problems? My doctor wasn't really much help, she just made me panic more than anything and she said it could become painful but i'd just have to deal with that till after the pregnancy.

I was about 8 weeks along with ds when I discovered it, not knowing much about hernias, I was scared I was going to lose the baby. ( we personally didn't have the internet way back then!) My midwife said it would be fine. I had a planned c-section, I don't know how it would be if you had a vaginal birth though, you may need to read up on it or ask someone.

oh no, now i'm really worried, I don't want to have a C section ever. (Unless its an emergency). Its really hard to find information on it on the internet as i don't even know the real name for this type of hernia.

It's called an Umbilical Hernia. You will fret, I have just scared myself looking stuff up on the net. Go to the Dr's and ask their advice.

hi, thanks for looking up stuff for me. I'm not sure that its an umbilical hernia i have as its nothing like any of the pictures i googled, and its above my belly button, its inbetween my chest and my belly button but you can't really see it if i'm standing up straight or lying down. The doc i spoke to today was no use, she just said that nothing will be done about it until it starts to cause pain, she just laughed at me cause i was panicking.

That is really not nice when you are obviously scared. Can you ask to see another Dr?
