please help, im worrying myself sick over DD!!

The situation is when my dd was about 9months and had her health visitor(HV) check i mentioned the fact that id noticed she has a lump under the skin on what looks like her rib cage, i asked if i should get this checked out by a paediatric doctor and she said it would never cause a problem and its nothing to worry about. My daughter is now 2 and a half and has recently said to me over that shes hurting and when asked where she puts her hand where the lump is. shes very knowing 4 her age and generally will always tell me if shes ill and what hurts etc very truthfully...
anyway, i took her to our gp last thursday who said she needs to be seen by a paediatric doctor at the hospital and to have xrays. But cant explain what the lump could be, but said it needs to be identified.
Im now beating myself up because i listened to the HV and didnt go with my own instincts of taking her to get it diagnosied properly when she was younger.

Has anyone had anything like this with any of their children??

Sorry about the long post but i just need advice from someone, my dp is great but works very long hours so doesnt seem to realise how much im upsetting myself over this!

How long will you have to wait for the paediatric appointment? there is nothing you can do but wait and whatever you do, DON'T yahoogle it.

i have googled it which was a really bad idea, hence why im sat in tears . Ive got to take her back to the doctor next week and he said an appointment and xray should come thorugh in the mean time or if not he'll speed it up when i go back to see him. the waiting parts the worst...

My DS had a wierd lump/bruise thing in the sternum area. It was nothing...he just has a funny shape ribcage but the GP did refer nme to have it checked at he time. I will try and find my posts from then.

ah thankyou that would be great, im hoping because shes had it for over a year and it hasnt grown atall that its not anything serious, but then im reading up on the internet about syndrome this and syndrome that and sending myself insane! xx

If it's been there and relatively unchanged it's unlikely to be something nasty, or somthing which a wait for diagnosis will have any significant effect on. Hopefully it will be sorted by the paediatric hospital specialist who see these things all the time.

I hope you get it sorted. (My DD has a massive periumbilical hernia that they won't refer for but it's this huge lump and I am worried too despite the fact it's always been there.)

I know your right 'noteven' i think its more not doing anything about it before thats getting to me, especially when i saw the look on the doctors face after he'd looked at it as if he suspected something bad but didnt actually want to say anything so reffered her to a paediatric doc.

If your GP thought it was really bad you would be referred as an emergency not having to wait a while for an appt. so this is a good sign i would ssay.
With my ds's lump it came up in a bruise and he had a bit of a temp also. GP referred him to hospital immediately....it was a bit scary at the tiem as i was expecting her to say its nothing. For him thiugh it was hte fact it was bruised and that he had a temp that worried her.

Now he is older it is less noticeable, it seems to have grown out a bit. DS2 also has a funnyish shaped ribacge as does DH so i think it was jsut this but it seemed more distinctive at that time.

yes thats what i was hoping aswell.
My dd is naturally thin like her dad she eats like a horse but dosent seem to ever put on weight so i think this makes it more noticeable aswell. There is no bruise and its not a different colour form the rest of her chest and shes otherwise very healthy and happy.
Im bound to worry about it but im just going to try and put it to the back of my mind as there is nothing i can do until i get an appointment and like you said if they thought it was that serious they would have reffered her immediatly.

I'm sure your doctor would be fine if you rang the surgery and explained you are very worried about the wait. He or she would be happy to reassure you.

How long until the appointment?

btw, if a doctor thought the lump needed to be checked for cancer (which I'm guessing might be what you've found via google) then they would refer immediately. There's a max 2 week wait for suspected cancer. So if your wait is longer, it's reassuring rather than worrying. Although you are only human, of course you do worry anyway.

i havnt had the appointment through yet, but the doctor wants to see her again next week regardless of whether ive had the appointment through yet or not.
Ive found all different things through google, but because shes had the lump so long and it hasnt really changed i dont think it could be the c word do you?

I doubt it but I am not a doctor and haven't seen her in person.
