how bad does a tummy bug/diahorrea need to be before contacting the doctor? TMI warning

I've got some sort of lurgy; either bug or food poisoning and feel pretty rough; temperature, aches and pains, vomitting, sore in the area of my kidneys and the worst diahorrea I have ever encountered. Diahorrea started on Monday night and has been pretty constant since then. I haven't had anything to eat since breakfast yesterday, and if I drink I am instantly wracked with horrible stomach cramps and it runs right through me. I had two instances of shitting myself when I was asleep last night, only waking up as it was happening and have been putting some left over newborn nappies to good use today

Is there any point contacting the doc? I know it will probably just have to run (haha) it's course, but I've never experienced anything as severe as this before...tis pretty miserable

How strange is that!!!

Whatever they put in it is so strong, possibly TMI coming up but most things take 20-30 mins to make me feel ill and realise whats coming. Pizza Hut is within 5 minutes- had managed to get out of the restaurant, drive out of the parking then straight into Tesco opposite(thank god that was there!!)

Sounding like I do have IBS then. Docs booked for Thurs.

Same here wrt to 20-30 mins!!

Delightful, isn't it!? I wish I'd never gone on holiday to Portugal!!

Yay, I'm on the mend

Much better yesterday, ate a bit of brekkie and lunch and then had a normal dinner (BBQ, but stuck to well cooked chicken!). I even risked a wee glass of wine as my sis and family were staying overnight.

I even managed a wee walk out through the woods with the kids and my sis and family yesterday afternoon.

Still not 100% at the bottom end, but it's nowhere near as frequent or violent.

Man that was horrible though.

Those of you with the adverse reaction to Pizza hut, have you been checked for coealiac disease? Mine became more obvious after a gastro bug a few years ago, and pizza was the one thing that used to have me bolting for the toilet immediately after eating.

Oh gosh, no haven't been tested- will have a nice long list to discuss with the doctor!

So glad to hear you are getting better - I remember the first time I ate - felt really strange to have some energy!

littlerach · 23/08/2009 11:29

With coealiacs, would it be a reaction to all wheat though?

How do you get tested?

Glad you have managed some food!

LackaDAISYcal · 23/08/2009 12:40

coeliac is wheat barley and rye and sometimes oats.

docs can take a simple blood test to test for gluten antibodies; if these are present then a gut biopsy via endoscope is needed to confirm the diagnosis.
