I have it, and have done for 6 years (un/luckily it's on my scalp) which means have been through cycles of it being bearable / so bad that my hair fell out

Anh way, I can't cope with it now, I am fed up and stress is making it terrible, but my GP doesn't / will not refer me to a specialist as he thinks they will give me the same creams / treatment that he has, except he has never taken any tests, merely looked at it and said "hmmmm"

I want some proper help, I want to be able to go swimming with out it burning my head - I want to go to the hairdresssers and not be reduced to tears (although my hair dresser is amazing)

My parents have offered me to go private for help - what / how do I do now?

Also, does any one else have psoriasis and want a support thread?

Sorry, forget to say, defo go private if you've been offered, they really do know more than the ave GP. They will likely perscribe some pretty hefty steroidy type creams which thin the skin, but really do work. You can use them for the start to get in under control & maybe then try & experiment with some more gentle remedies (tar, aloe?).

If you want to get to the root of why you get it (rather than just treat the symptoms), I would recommend finding a good kinesiologist.

o right, whats one of those chaps? A kinesiologist?

would accupuncture, chinese medicine have any effect? I need to get rid of this, or feel like i am doing some thing constructive

Please get a referral before trying anything herbal. None of that stuff is clinically trialled, and is not necessarily safe or even has what it claims to in it. It is very expensive too, apart from anything else. It's always worth being aware of factors like these when going with the alternative/complementary approach

If your skin isn't especially fair, have you considered the odd sunbed, btw? You have to be careful, obviously, but they can be surprisingly effective. Don't let anything be a substitute for proper medical advice though.

Does anyone else become really tired when it is a bad flare up? A friend who had it reckoned that the skin being the largest organ needed more blood etc so the heart and everything else worked that much harder, hence feeling tired.
My feet and ankles are bloody sore in this damp weather.

yes I feel exhausted, but I thought that it was me getting tired / stressed that made it flare up. Not the other way round.

I will go back to my GP - ask directly again for a referral, if none is given, I will ask him how to go private.

This has really helped me x x
