BIL rushed into hospital

My BIL has been rushed into hospital tonight. He has non-hogkins lymphoma, although it is only in his brain now. Apparently he was in loads of pain and has started just talking gibberish and being really confused. They don't know why.

PIL are with him, we are in thier house so DP can cook the sunday lunch they had started cooking (we were all meant to be eating it together) so they at least have something to eat when they get home.

This isn't good, is it?

Well, he is in the best place.
could be any number of things.
Not necissarily all doom and gloom, could be severe infection (lymphomas are prone after all) if so, then treatable.

Just hang on and wait, just try to be positive.

hugs hun x

Oh Lissie,I am sorry.

If he has cerebral involvement this may account for the confusion etc.

Is he in mid treatment at the moment?

LissyGlitter · 16/08/2009 19:25

He is in a break in treatment while they decide what to do next. He was on chemo and radio, there was three tumours in his brain and two went, but then they stopped because they said the chemo was just making him ill, then they decided to have a break in the radio to see what would happen.

He is just recovering from a bad infection in his leg, and a couple of weeks before that he had a terrible throat infection.

I know everyone says this, but it is just so unfair. Every time we think he's turned a corner, something else happens.

As Sunburn says it could be that he has sepsis.I would imagine to determine this they will take some blood cultures for analysis. This usually takes about 48 hours to see what bug he has grown and I would imagine they would commence antibiotics and so on immediately if he has indications of infection.

If he is post chemotherapy and his blood counts are flat his white cell count (the cells that fight infection) could be very low so he will be especially prone to getting infections very quickly.

If they find it isn't infection I guess they would repeat a bone marrow biopsy or even do a lumbar puncture and possibly MRI scan to look at his brain.xx

Yes it is a cruel and horrible disease.

So sorry he is going through this xx

Is there anything I can do for the family? I feel pretty useless.
