bitterly regret doing the assessment thing as have been advised to take the stuff (will it be tamiflu? my daughter has gone to collect it now)

woke up with temp that just scraped 38, sore throat, fairly bad head and achey joints and limbs - feel like have opened can of worms by going on the online assessment thing

anyway have told the very few people I have to come into contact with via work, particularly the two who are vulnerable, and have made suitable arrangements BUT am not going to lie down and stay in for ages when chances are it is just a random non-pig thing

also have got tickets for Walking With Dinosaurs AND Warhorse on Friday - can I coat self with anti-bac gel and just not do any coughing? last time I was in London the whole place seemed to be sneezing and coughing, as per

think am only feeling ill because of doing a bit too much in recent weeks

o me miserum

and confuse-um

oh please advise, you wise and experienced survivors - is it irresponsible to go out? do I tell everyone or just the vulnerable plus women of childbearing age? am I doing the wrong thing by taking the tamiflu (just took first one)? should I just make my own mind up about these things?

I wouldn't go out as you could infect random vulnerable people if it is
it sucks that you can't test and check

CountessDracula · 04/08/2009 17:25

(spoken as someone whose dd has it - am about to change holiday flights for this reason)

MitchyInge · 04/08/2009 17:30

thanks

I'll stay away from people - bulk of work involves collecting dogs for socialisation groups, could ask someone to do the picking up and dropping off while I mooch about in the middle of a big field

it is definitely not a zoonotic disease so can still enjoy company of animals

despair at idea of not meeting the dinosaurs or seeing Warhorse though

obsessed with topic now

feel SUPER pukey and bet this is 100% down to reading that I might be nauseous after first dose

wish was not such a suggestible creature

I had SF and was so poorly only been out house twice in 2 weeks apart from to the doc. Could not have physically got to a concert or gone to work but everyone's different so not saying you haven't got SF. I also got a secondary infection.

Is so hard to tell what is SF and what isn't especially as if tamiflu does do the job it's meant to it should stop the symptoms in it's tracks and you will never know how poorly you'd have been or not been without taking it.

My eldest got if first and had really scary breathing problems so if there's any chance it is SF would not go near anyone vulnerable.

Hope you get better soon x

Thanks, my temp is coming down already but last night couldn't lie on my back without coughing and wheezing so had to sort of prop myself up like an old person in hospital.

Have told everyone, just in case it IS the pig germ - then they have the choice to be exposed or to stay away. Doctor said it's ok to inflict self on the world once symptoms have gone, so am optimistic that they might be gone by Friday afternoon.

hope you recover for Friday, I had to do the pillow propping too - feel like an old biddy don't you!

eidsvold · 05/08/2009 13:14

here where I live in Aus they are advising people to quarantine themselves for a week post onset of symptoms as that is how long you can be infectious for. I have two in my family who are in the high risk and very vulnerable due to underlying health conditions as well as a little one. I have tried all I can to keep them as 'safe' as possible without putting them under house arrest. I would hope that you reconsider the trips out - just because you do not know who you may come in contact with and who they may come in contact with.

SoupDragon · 05/08/2009 13:18

It is a virus so covering yourself in anti bacterial stuff is pointless.

MitchyInge · 05/08/2009 16:23

ah, viral, bacterial - germs is germs to my unscientific way of thinking

you're just not considered infectious once the symptoms have gone, so will lie low until then

Don't go out. You will still be infectious and it is irresponsible to go to a public place. You touch your nose, touch the turnstile, and you can literally give it to thousands of people. In the Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918, a small community was killed in Novoscotia by the postman. He had it, and in handing out the once monthly mail gave it everyone. I'm not saying you'll kill anyone (though there is always the potential if you give it to someone vulnerable), but it goes to show how easily transmissable it is. You should no longer be contagious after 7 days from from first symptoms (not when you feel you're over it).
Sorry, but that's my opinion.

Gotte · 06/08/2009 11:07

And finish your Tamiflu. I'm not sure, but I think it's like antibiotics. There's more chance it will become resistant if not fully treated.
