She is already a lot better apart from sounding like a seal when she coughs.

She had a bit of a temp this am, lunchtime and tonight but otherwise is fairly bright and happy.

WWYD?

my ds was really ill with it (apparently) on monday, was running around like normal by thursday

if she has a history of being hospitalised for pneumonia would be extra cautious about risking travel. The other thing is if her immune system is low she could pick up something else on the plane. On the other hand if she is much better and symptom free would be a shame to miss the holiday, it's a tough one. I'd get her checked over for signs of infection before you go if you can just to be safe. I had a secondary chest infection and if I'd missed it could've turned nasty x

oh yes good point, thanks I will

DD had 'classic' symptoms - high fever for 3 days hacking cough and snot, then we all came down with flu like symptoms - i had a private swab done - negative for SF. Am guessing lots of people misdiagnosed. Which makes the death rate for SF higher of course.

Think you've done the right thing in the circs tho.

CountessDracula · 05/08/2009 09:47

well she had no temp last night
and none this morning!

She is bouncing around like a mad thing argh!!!

I have just spoken to our GP who said if she remains asymptomatic then it is fine to fly tomorrow pm. He said the guidlines are 5 - 7 days and they are obviously general and from her quick recovery and lack of symptoms she is good to go!

I was concerned in case she got a secondary bacterial infection but he said that if she were to get that she would have gone straight into it and not got better.

Hurrah!

good news

yummymummy310 · 05/08/2009 13:13

yeah that's maybe true as that's what happened to me, I got the infection only a few days into the flu and didn't get better, I also think I took tamiflu too late which was a bot pointless! Hope you have a great time x

I just went with the symptom-free-for-24 hours bit before I took my two anywhere.

My son had very mild SF or something else (?) on the Saturday, following my daughter's earlier bout, and was fine by 3pm on the Sunday (temp. had gone, wasn't coughing, wasn't sneezing, didn't have a temp). So by 3pm on the Monday we visited friends very briefly for a cup of tea on our way to my FIL's. The only thing that was 'wrong' with him was that he was tired and actually took himself out to the car to have a nap. We weren't even sure he'd had SF (or that my daughter had). She had also been symptom-free for well over 24 hours by that stage.

Obviously different on a plane, though...

CountessDracula · 05/08/2009 13:32

well she had another temp this am so have re-booked for Saturday

grrr

Oh how maddening!

CountessDracula · 05/08/2009 13:55

yes it is but we avoid ryanair and fly from heathrow which is local and it only cost us an extra £150 thank goodness
Accommodation are fine we have switched our dates and it means we get longer with our mates there so all in all not too bad really just a faff!!

Silver linings!

hellywobs · 07/08/2009 17:45

Unless you are 100% sure it's swine flu, don't cancel your holiday because it might just be a cold or some other short-lived virus (not that I am saying a cold is always short-lived). If you can change the flights without too much financial pain, then of course do it. Even if you have insurance, I don't trust the insurance companies to cough up if you haven't been formally diagnosed, for one thing and most people aren't, because you are supposed to stay away from surgeries and hospitals.

I am due to go away on Wednesday and praying that we all stay healthy! And if we don't, I certainly will be going to the doctors for a sick note for the insurance. I can't afford to lose the money.

And get Sambucol.

hellywobs · 07/08/2009 17:47

Should have read the whole thread! But my point stands for anyone else in a similar predicament.

CountessDracula · 07/08/2009 23:52

you can't be 100 % sure as they don't swab any more

Helly the other important tip is to take loads of calpol etc wherever you go

We got it on holiday- ds2 just collapsed on the last day. Clearly we had been infecting everyone without realising (he'd been with friends and fallen asleep in sun so we were told heatstroke at first)
