Post-mortems before media statements, perhaps

Just checking out the news and see that the poor little 6 year old girl from London who died, Chloe Buckley, actually did have 'underlying health conditions' after all. Now that a post-mortem has been carried out, it seems that she had Strep A, which caused tonsillitis, and her death was caused by going into septic shock. BBC news here (also sadly reports a further death in Scotland).

The point at which a lot of people got into a big panic about SF was the day that the news was released about Chloe and Dr Day (the Beds GP) having died, despite both reportedly having no underlying health issues. Yet, it now appears after a post-mortem, she in fact did. It just seems a lot of unnecessary concern and fear might be avoided if they didn't give us precise details about deaths and the people involved until the post-mortems have actually been carried out.

However in the same article, it says that the post-mortem on Dr Day now is concluding that SF was a contributing factor (although he had other health problems such as high blood pressure and heart disease too). So first they said it was a SF death, then they said it wasn't, and now it is again... I wish they'd sort out the facts before they tell us too much detail.

Effie - coinciding bacterial infections along with flu are pretty common. The tonsillitis fortunately isn't an underlying health condition. Its quite likely I expect that both the flu and the bacterial infection were contributing factors.

You are right though, would be much better to report the result of pms rather than media speculation. Must be heart breaking for families to read the speculation
