  • I was about to hide the entire topic - but then saw this thread - and couldn't agree more .
sweetcat · 17/07/2009 19:37

hear hear

Wheelybug · 17/07/2009 19:38

That's what they said in 1348 ()

rubyslippers · 17/07/2009 19:38

i am not worried in the slightest

maybe we could have a thread for non-panicers about swine flu?

ProfessorPhantomPlopper · 17/07/2009 19:39

Would be better if it was Black death, tis easily treated now a days.

I am worried for the next 11 days after that I shall worry no more.

seeker · 17/07/2009 19:39

In1348 they said "try not to worry, it's the Black Death, not the grippe"!

oooo ruby - I like that idea.

We could invite all those MN'ers who have already had it to come and attest that

  1. Yes it wasn't very nice
  2. (most important one) that they're still alive

I am just recovering from a confirmed case of Swine Flu and I have to say that it was nowhere near as bad as the one I had about five years ago. Five years ago I was hallucinating and could not physically get out of bed! This one does seem to leave you very tired but that is to be expected. Both my children have had it and yes, there were a couple of days when they felt really awfull but they are absolutely fine now as well.

Personally I am glad to have got it out of the way so to speak.

ToutFucker · 17/07/2009 19:41

yes, quit the hysterical worrying

it is flu, flu happens every year

every year people get flu, feel like crap, get better

some people die every year of influenza, that is not reported

many people don't get it all

most people can count the number of times they have had flu in their whole life (as opposed to a bad cold) on the fingers of one hand

stop listening to the media hype, the government promote the hype because it deflects from what a crap job they are doing in running the country

sweetfall · 17/07/2009 19:41

Yes it wasn't very nice
Yes it was really quick and over and done with and actually just a 48 hour bug (for us)
Yes we're all still alive (including asthmatics and immuno-surpressed)

DD awoke this morning with high temp and snuffles. Boy who sits next to her at school was diagnosed as having swine flu earlier in the week. So we are assuming she has it.

With a bit of calpol to lower her temp, you wouldnt know she's ill. She says its just like any old cold. GP (on phone, of course) said its fine to go on holiday tomorrow.

She has been pogo-ing in the living room.

Candlewax · 17/07/2009 19:43

Ow! That hurt!

rubyslippers · 17/07/2009 19:44

am @ FAQ's criteria ...

FAQinglovely · 17/07/2009 19:44

ok - as you were Candlewax

ProfessorPhantomPlopper · 17/07/2009 19:44

Well if its not bad enough to cancel a holiday, I shall stop my worrying earlier.

It's not as bad as tosilitis. That was waaaay worse.

Noonki · 17/07/2009 19:55

I wasn't worrying but made the mistake of reading a newspaper.

Will duly stop worrying....for a bit

LuluMaman · 17/07/2009 19:58

local rag got big story about killer flu in local school

gawds sake

did not see same story when seasonal flu was rife

have had seasonal flu twice, was fairly grim

had flu jab this winter just gone, as diagnosed with asthma, and did not get flu

if i get swine flu, am confident it will be ok

my children are robust and healthy,no underlying issues, soemtimes need an inahler, but mostly in winter if running around in the cold

have stocked up on some meds and basics, but going to school and work as normal

our friend had swine flu, so we have been exposed and probably exposed to it by others

LuluMaman · 17/07/2009 19:59

snort at that list, faq

and maybe a little oink too

Elibean · 17/07/2009 20:04

Nice thread, thank you seeker

I do worry a bit about dh (bad asthma with viruses) and dd2 (nearly died of a bog standard virus as baby due to underlying health issues) so extra good to hear stories from asthmatics etc: newspapers are very annoying.

What really helped knock me back into reality over this one was the 'children's ward full of kids with swine flu' headline: wards are full of kids with bronchiolitis every single winter, week after week, and dd2 nearly died of it - is that reported?!?
