How forgetful are you?

For the past year or so I have noticed how forgetful I am. It is things like going upstairs and forgetting what I went up there for and other things like a work taking a message and then 2 minutes later it is out my head. I am starting to worry it could be something serious. Anyone else like this, things happen at least 10 times a day like this.

I think its motherhood. When I had my first child they threw away my brain and left me with the placenta to think with instead, I am sure of it!

Have only just found this thread - but can I say how happy it has made me -?!! I though I was the only one who went into rooms and couldn't remember why, loses her hairbrush EVERY morning, cna't remember what seh did last weekend or what she had for lunch yesterday!

I was actually contemplating going to the doctor about it because it was getting me down - but I feel a whole lot better now - cheers bouncy and everyone

the words thing is what gets me (great grammer!), like ninja I constantly forget words mid-sentence, it's awful, I start off fully confident about what I want to say and then just blank on a word and can't think of a replacement either.

LOL Josiejump!

My mum did something similar only she forgot to lift the toilet lid - messy!

After scoring full marks in the memory section of the IQ test I went to Tesco today and forgot everything my DH asked me to get for him, half of Sunday night's dinner and completely forgot to go down the dairy aisle so forgot to buy milk, butter and yoghurts. My only excuse is I usually go to ASDA, only use Tesco online just fancied a change!

At an antenatal class I was at a midwife warned us "after the baby's born, they pull your brain out with the placenta." Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most! My regular silly things are

  1. Getting fridge and microwave mixed up.
  2. When I've worked out which one is for heating food up, I put the microwave on full power with nothing in it.
  3. Put pan of water on to boil to cook veg. Forget to put veg in. Get confused when trying to dish up from pan of hot water.
  4. Lock car but leave keys in door.
  5. Write shopping list but leave it in car.
  6. Write shopping list but forget to look at it until at checkout and too late
  7. Go into bedroom to get something. Go into bathroom by accident instead. Stand in bathroom bewildered.
  8. Mix up names of family members and pets.
  9. Forget names of friends.
  10. Driving along in car. Suddenly realise have gone wrong way because forgot where was going and am half way to somewhere else.

I could go on all night ...

kaiterocket - I do that too. I can be teaching a class about the intrecit bits of computers and just forget the right word. I then feel a real idiot in front of a bunch of kids! I do it so much since DD was born a year ago. I used to be pretty good with words, now I simply forget which word it is I wanted to use!

So, does your mind come back after a while?

XAusted · 10/05/2003 21:20

Not so far. Youngest child is now 4. No sign of brain.
