not sure about the right eye edgarcat but my DS has/had a blocked tear duct from birth, he went we went to see an eye specialist and he said that it's fairly common and normally rights itself by 2 years old. IF not there is apparently a fairly straightforward operation they can do although obviously it's best if they can avoid doing it. DS is now 18 months and it seems to have sorted itself out.

have you seen a doctor?

is it like conjuntivitis? My 1 year old has had quite a lot of that with nasty yellow stuff around the eyes and I tried the massage but it didn't help and Miss Baby didn't like it, so we've resorted numerous times to drops which are not nice to put in, but cream which you put round the eye is less traumatic for both parties.

I had the same with my ds. I didn't do the massage because I tried it for a while and it seemed to have no effect and he didn't like me doing it. It was worst when he had colds... he would wake up with his eye stuck shut from all the gook. I would wipe it with a wet tissue to clean it off. I went to various specialists here in the uk and spoke to my paediatrician in the usa. They all said that it would clear up by the time he was a year old. In fact it didn't clear up until he was 18 -20 mo., but the waiting list was so long for the procedure to have it done, that that was well before he had his appointment. I also gather that the procedure for unblocking it (poking a hole in the duct) involves general anesthetic for a small child as they can't keep still enough and therefore is not something you really want to do unless absolutely necessary.
The only word of warning is that it does seem to make them more susecptible to eye infections so you may find yourself going a little more frequently to the gp to deal with those. Better not to leave them as they can get bad because the proper drainage (cleansing) isn't there. I left one too long with my ds and was scolded by the hospital when I finally did bring him in.

Just to update this tread. Have just got back from specialist who says that the droop can be corrected when he is 4 if it doesnt go by then, The tear duct he will leave for a while.

With the droop the fact that the pupil shows means he can probably see so they are monitoring him(now 14 weeks) till they can assess his vision with more scientific methods!!

told coddy this already but in case it helps anyone else -
very strong, cold or tepid, camomile tea is very good for cleaning babies eyes - three teabags in a mug, boiling water, keep covered in the fridge and don't keep for more than 24 -48 hours. dunk a clean cotton ball in and clean eyes (one cotton ball per eye obviously). gets rid of the gloop and has antibacterial properties so helps prevent eye infections. in fact even gets rid of minor eye infections if you catch them early. and nice and natural and cooling for babe!
