Which holistic therapy would be best do you reckon?

I seem to be feeling very run down and suffering from numerous minor ailments following a major period of depression over the last year. I have a feeling that, rather than go to my GP about each individual ailment, I might be better seeing someone like a homeopath or acupuncturist for a more holistic approach.

Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations?

Homeopathy is very effective. A homeopath can help work with the skin and promot confidence to reduce the anxiety. But it does take time and is longer term. The Reiki would be good for the immediate, or holistic massage.

The skin and anxiety sounds interelated. Recognising what makes you anxious and finding ways to gain mastery over those feelings could be found in Self help books, meditation, Yoga. They can help you find out what works for you best on a personal level. As healing is personal.

all the best

I´ve had chinese medicine before... lucky to have tablets.. mine was liquid and hard work to drink!

I am iased towards homepathy (as I hope to be one). Before you do anything I would go to teh library and get a great book called "what works, what doesn't" by Pat Thomas - it gives a very scientific appraisal of all alternative therapies and should help you to decide hich on might work best, and which one would suit your personality best.

The University of Westminster has clinics for it's alternative medicine students to practice on patients. Students are supervisd in clinic by v. experienced tutors and you pay lots less than for a qualified private practitioner.

and here's a link to the Bandolier website , a collection of the latest evidence for all sorts of treatments (not just complementary ones), pulled together by some scientists in Oxford for both healthcare professionals and patients. homeopathy has taken a bit of a bashing recently (on the lack of evidence) but i believe that even if it is an enhanced placebo effect, it's got to be taken seriously if large numbers of people feel benefit from it.

I have seen a Knesiologist who, like Jampots, diagnosed and treated imbalances (and severe candida, also treated and cured)

I also saw a Acupuncturist last year with liver probs (the Kneisologist recommended seeing one) was diagnosed with stress which was causing the liver probs. Had about 6 sessions, felt really good afterwards. Really recommend it - more like Reflexology which sorts out imbalances - which is also really good!

prufrock- where are you training?

Prufrock · 10/05/2005 21:26

I'm not yet, but it will be London School of Classical Homeopathy - they do the first year as an open learning which fits in better with my life over the next year - waiting for materials to arrive.

can thoroughly recommend reiki I find it gives me a real energised feeling outside but a calmness inside

rosies · 20/05/2005 09:11

hmmm as a multi disciplined therapist, i have to say reflexology would be my first recommendation. it balances, relaxes, energises, boosts all the systems.... need i say more? also, many people get a good blast of reiki from me too!

more info on the various therapies to help you decide whats best for you.
