I'm 38. If I go to the GP about PMT and period pain.....

Will she laugh at me and tell me I should be used to it by now?

I've always had heavy painful periods, but since returning after littlest Manky they are heavier, more painful, last longer and my PMT is awful...from just after I ovulate til the day I come on properly I can feel it building. I am either shrieking like a fishwife , or bursting into tears, or sitting not wanting to move/be bothered with anything.

If someone is nice to me I either snap or cry .

I am also tired all the time. I thought it was because I was overweight, but over the last 10 months I have lost 20lbs, and am powerwalking/running 3 or 4 times a week to try and boost energy levels.

I think it's all connected, but feel daft going to the doctor about it, because as my mum said, that's just being a woman isn't it? Although she is getting as bit worried by the mood swings I have now.

I have tried evening primrose oil, but that didn't work.

I have made an appointment with the GP for next week, but I feel like cancelling it.

Just to let you know I went today and the doctor was actually lovely. She was more concerned about the bleeding than the PMT, but said one thing at a time.

I have to go back next week for a whole load of blood tests, and she has given me some Tranexamic Acid to see if that helps the bleeding meantime. I have to go back about that after a couple of cycles, she did say that I should not have left it as long to go and see her.

I asked about referal to gynae on and she said that would be the next step, so we shall see.

I'm going to try some of the pmt remedies suggested meantime.

Thanks again.

Hi manky,

Well done for going to see her now.

Don't be too surprised if the blood tests do not pick up anything. If the underlying cause of all this is endometriosis this is not picked up through blood tests anyway.

Treating the symptoms is all well and good but they need to find the cause!.

Am glad she is planning on referring you but I think she should do so now rather than in a couple of months time.

Don't worry, I won't let it rest, I am going to wait for the blood results then go back and see what she is going to do.

Thanks for all your help

I used to have heavy periods and quite severe pain but not nearly as bad as some of the posters on this thread. I started using a Mooncup about 4 months ago and can't believe the difference. The second day of my period is quite heavy but not even close to how it used to be. I don't recall having any period pains either.

Sadly, pmt is as bad as ever, if not worse. It seems to be lasting most of the month now. I've been taking starflower and evening primrose oil for about 2 months and haven't noticed any difference so far but will stick with it as there doesn't seem to be any alternative at the moment.

I am thinking about going back to the GP about PMT. Last time I went I was offered ADs for it, but chose to decline (and got pregnant shortly afterwards). Now having had a baby and nine blissful (well in some ways) months without it I can see how utterly mental it makes me. It isn't an appealing thought, but I don't want to go on like this.

Just a quick update!

The Tranxemic Acid worked up to a point, and although heavy was manageable.

PMT has been off the scale though.

In the last 3 months I have had 2 episodes of mid cycle bleeding, very light but needing a liner. Last Friday I went back to the same doctor, who took some swabs to rule out infection. She called me back today to advise me that the swabs were clear and she was referring me for urgent Gynae assessment.

Hopefully I wont have long to stress because she asked if I was going anywhere in the next couple of weeks. Which made me worry even more.

And i think I should be proud of myself, I haven't googled

Even though the GP said she now had cause for concern.

It's a Tier 2 referral, whatever that means.
