biopsies - can anyone give me any info

DH is due to be admitted as a day patient on Saturday for a biopsy (he has to have 4 samples of bone taken from his shoulder - is that 4 biopsies?)

anyway, can anyone answer the following -

when the bone samples have been taken what happens then?
is it really only a day case, or could there be complications that mean he ends up staying in?
how long is it likely to be before he gets any results back? (He is NHS-referred to BUPA if that makes any difference)
is the procedure likely to cause a lot of pain? (he is in a massive amount of pain anyway, but just wondered if it would be worse afterwards)
is the movement of his shoulder joint likely to be limited for any amount of time (he is hoping to start a new job next week, obviously that won't happen if he can't move his arm)

Ria, I may be able to help with the results bit as that is my area of work.....it could take a few weeks I'm afraid cos biopsies with bone in take a bit of time to process / look at.....and is often a specialised field so sometimes slides are sent away for expert opinions. Do you know why he has to have 4 samples?

I donated bone marrow once, which meant they had to penetrate bone. It was very sore but didn't take long to get up and running and presumably he'll get some decent painkillers.

There is no reason why it can't be a day case. Is he having a general or a local. There are always reasons why they may want to keep someone in but hopefully they are confident that this won't be the case.

Are his new employers aware? Even if he can go to work, he will probably need to be careful.

I'm not sure why 4 samples, I think it's something to do with if there is infection where it is and how far it's spread? DH has said if it's only more pain he can cope with that, and the job won't be physical for a few days (more menu planning and organising suppliers etc). He is having GA.
