been to dental hygienist today, and she painted something protective over a sensitive tooth, only thing is...,

it's orange!

my tooth is now orange, is this right?, should it be that colour? luckily its a back molar, it's broken in the past (i have weak teeth), and has a very large filling in it. i asked her to be careful around it as it's very sensitive. she said 'no worries, i can paint it with a protective coating for you'. i forgot to ask how long it lasts, so have no idea how long my tooth will be orange for.

has anyone else had this done?

Yes, I have had it done, but it was definitely not orange!!! On the other hand, it was quite near the front of my mouth. Perhaps they are less bothered when it's at the back?

can you remember how long it lasted?, it was quite sticky and tasted like bubble gum, she said not to eat or drink for an hour to give it time to dry.

it looks like i haven't cleaned my teeth for years and have glowing, orange plaque . i think she's over applied whatever it was she used.

Have you brushed your teeth since?

It will come off when you brush your teeth HOWEVER I'd leave it on there as long as poss it really helps.

I think the coatings are called fischer sealants - I've had them done before, but they are colourless and def. NOT orange!!

I would go back to the dentist, TBH!!

cargirl - right, if that's the case, i might be brave and given i've had a scale and polish, leave brushing them till the morning. it would be good if it does help this tooth, i can't bare anything touching it normally.

It's like a neat versions of what they put in sensitive toothpaste rather than a sealant. Get some sensitive toothpast and smear it on 3 times a day until the tooth recovers.

I have sensitive teeth and guess what it's sugar and toothpaste that sets them off!

I wonder if it's this stuff It mentions staining.

I have gel kam stuff in tube which is clear, tastes foul but does help.

just had a look at it again, my tooth looks ok, it's the stuff she painted on that is orange, i touched it and it seems to come off easily, so guess it will go once they are cleaned.

i was just a bit shocked when i looked in my mouth, wasn't expecting to see that!

if it's got a large filling, and sensitive, I'm guessing you may have the beginnings of an infection. You say the tooth has been cracked? That's a slow route for infection.

I had exactly the same thing - very large filling in a back molar that, unbeknowns to me was also cracked. over a year I had what I thought was sensitivity - nothing showed up on dental x-rays. It all came to a head a year after the 'sensitivity' started. I had what the GP thought was trigeminal neuralgia, but then a week later one side of my face swelled up. I had root canal work a month later. The infection had completely eaten the pulp.

Mine was orange too - its a high flouride concentrate. It does wear off over a couple of days i was told not to brush it that day to give it a good chance.
