Erm, dunno where to put this. But I need advice on getting travel insurance if you have a pre-existing medical condition.

Dh and friend are going to Istanbul on Sat. Trouble is that our friend has a dodgy eye. He's already lost the sight in one eye and his other eye is weak. He's had treatment for it and currently has a special lens in place that he can only have in for a short time each day.
This weekend just gone he was taken into casualty and it turns out that an ulcer had formed on this eye. He's been prescribed abs and luckily his eye is recovering.

However they want to get travel insurance and all the ones I've looked at, won't pay out for a pre-existing medical condition. If anything is to happen, it will most probably involve his eye! How can they get insurance for this one trip without paying an arm and a leg for it?

have you tried M & S?

I have a pre existing condition and they covered me (Direct Line charged a fortune)

I think that we have gone with a company called ACE (great name ) to cover us for DS's epilepsy

Try www.allcleartravel.co.uk or www.medicitravel.com. Both these companies specialise in travel insurance for pre-existing conditions. DH has a heart condition so we always have to declare this and get special insurance when we go on holiday.

Were really helpful when we needed to set up a policy although a bit pricey. Fortunately all was well with us so no idea how helpful they are if you actually end up needing to claim!

They've insured dd when no-one else would and you usually get to speak to a person who asks relevant questions instaed of reading from a script.

Thanks guys, we got a very good quote from M&S who were happy to insure him at no extra cost. £16 for the one trip. Not too bad for piece of mind, because if anything did happen to his eye, it would cost him thousands in treatment, in fact he would simply have to fly back. Good to know that at least he wouldn't lose out financially should that worst case scenario happen.
