TMI? Blue discharge

I can't name change because I don't know which email address I used to sign up with, so...

I get this watery blue discharge every day. It looks exactly like I've worn wet white knickers with dark jeans and the colours have run - if you can imagine that! Except I haven't of course.

I know I should see a doctor, but blue is such a weird colour and I don't want to sound like a nutter. I don't want to take my soiled underwear with me as evidence and I'm not taking my knickers down in the surgery.

There's no offensive smell and it's not unpleasant, just very annoying as it doesn't wash out so I'm getting through loads of knickers. Anyone else had this?

Um, have you lost some blue smarties up your fanjo?

I could use that as a discription of what my knickers look like rather than whipping them off at the surgery.

I'm a bit freaked now tbh. As I understand it HPV is a sexually transmitted disease, yet I've been with the same partner for over 10 years and neither of us have been unfaithful in that time.

Thre's no way I'll get an appt. at surgery tomorrow, we have to wait a week here. Would it be a good idea to see if I can get a smear test ASAP instead? I've got cystitis atm, so I suppose I could go to a walk-in clinic tomorrow to get both seen to.

Is this urgent?

Unless you're on a new med that can cause this this could well be HPV. But then again it might not be as i'm not in a position to diagnose. Best get it checked go to the GP pronto

PH I don't think urgent as in tonight, but you should get checked out.

Afaik, HPV is something you can contract and show no symptoms, then years later it can reemerge symptomatically - so it could be quite feasible that one of you caught it before you even met iyswim.

Don't worry - it doesn't mean you're doomed, just I believe it can eventually lead to precancerous type activity so best to be seen - ie cervical cancer is somehow associated with prior HPV infection.

But that's not to say one thing leads to the other.

I have never heard of hpv - I was trying to remember what ever it was that GeorgeIII had - which doesnt sound pleasant either

DP was a virgin when we met, so if it is HPV it will be me who had it before we met and I'll have passed it on to him.

I'm very glad I asked about this now as I don't think I'd have had the courage to ask a GP if I hadn't have known it wasn't just a bizarre thing. Feel a bit low now though.

I'll update when I've found out what's going on. There might be other MNrs reading who have this but are too embarrassed to talk about it too.

We're all doing really well, thanks for asking. We were passed over to a bloke who has to assess us, but he was happy to do that via my report, and he deemed us 'worthy' .

I'm about to start writing another report as he's requesting them every 3 months to start off with.

DS has learnt to read since we started HE too, and I am soooo proud of him. I've scrapped all the plans I had about going over phonics again because there's been no need. He now looks forward to DP bringing the paper in each day .

He's far more relaxed and independent too, which is a big bonus for me.

He's done it virtually alone too. I think the pressure to 'get it' at school had been counter-productive. Not that the teachers were pressuring him, but he was aware that he was being left behind.

It was weird actually. I bought all the Jolly Phonics stuff to use at home and we were doing the really basic stuff - CVC words that I knew he already knew, just to give him some confidence. And then...he was reading the instructions to games, and reading the Sky planner and the paper and everything else with words. So, the JP stuff has been stashed in a drawer and I'm letting him do it his own way.

The only struggle has been me not getting much adult time, but it's solvable - I just need to get out more and let DP look after DS. It's been really positive on the whole.

Have you given it any more thought? I know there are obstacles in the way, and in your circumstances it's much harder.

Saw my GP today and he thinks I have BV (bacterial vaginosis). He tested my urine and there was blood present so he thinks the discharge and urine infection are possibly connected. He was a bit vague when I mentioned HPV - I now know that the Jewish community don't get it because they tend to only have one circumsised partner, but have no idea whether I have it

He was adamant that HPV is not an STD, but rather a sexually associated condition and stressed that I shouldn't attack DP when he gets in from work and accuse him of being unfaithful - it hadn't even occurred to me! Then he went on to say that BV IS an STD, although I've just googled it and it can occur in virgins [baffled].

Anyway, have 2 courses of ABs and a smear test tomorrow morning. I only need go back if the weird discharge continues.

Oh, and he did look at me as if I'd just grown another head when I told said "yes, it's definitely BLUE"

Shiney, he just assumed I had a fishy discharge, but I don't.

He's a peculiar GP. Waffles on aimlessly for ages and then appears harrassed when I try to direct the conversation back to my reason for being there. I really didn't need to know the statistics of STDs amongst the Jewish, for example.

I wonder if he was thinking VD, when he said that BV was an STD. He did say that if it doesn't clear I'd need to visit a GUM clinic so it appears he does think I have an STD. Ohhh, I don't know what he was talking about. Hopefully the nurse will be able to chat tomorrow.

By the way, is there such a thing as Well-Woman clinics anymore. I'd really like (well not like) a thorough gynocological examination. I don't remember the last time I didn't have thrush/weird discharge/urine infections and I'm worried that there's something wrong that won't be picked up in a smear.

I'm too much of a wimp to ask for a second opinion at the surgery. Would rather go to a GUM clinic tbh.

I'll finish off these ABs, get the results of my smear and then I think I'll make an appt. at the GUM, whatever the results. Too many times now I've thought "Oh, thank God those ABs have worked and my kidneys aren't hurting anymore" only to get the same f*cking infection back the next week.

I wanted to tell him today that these urine infections have different symptoms to cystitis. I don't get the burning sensation, just a foul smell when I have a wee, and then the kidney pains start.

I'll find out where my local GUM is.

Hi primrose - I agree the gp seems a bit unsure/wrong/vague (delete as necessary)
I have never been to a GUM clinic but I bet they are more um... thorough and knowledgable than your average gp cos they are specialists as it were
