Right - I am not googling my symptoms anymore as frightening myself! Have very swollen glands in my neck & it hurts when I swallow - what can it be?

Noticed a gland up at the back of my neck on Thursday but it wasn't causing me any bother, then yesterday afternoon I noticed a sore throat & the glands at the front of my throat were very swollen. It hurts when I swallow & feel like I am almost being choked. I would put it down to tonsils but I don't have any!
My DS has been unwell over the last few days but he apparently has an ear infection so doubt it's linked. Started googling but got frightened by most severe things it could be!

Why not call NHS Direct?

By the sound of it you have an unpleasant viral infection that is going to make you feel shitty for a day or two but not kill you or do you any lasting harm. Have lemsip and a wank good sleep and you will feel better soon.

I've had pharyngitis which feels just like tonsilitis and is very similar. When I had glandular fever, I got MASSIVE glands. One stuck out like an elbow in the side of my neck. But I spent a day feeling incredibly faint and then another day throwing up constantly when it first kicked in. Doubt it's anything more than a nasty bug. Rest up and see the doctor if it carries on.

Have made a doctors appointment for this afternoon. The white patches seem to have got worse & I felt really rough last night. Have now dosed myself right up so feel a tiny bit better in myself although can't shift the sore throat. Even drinking fizzy water hurts.

Sore throats really suck. Poor you

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2009 10:21

Have you got ice lollies in? Lots of those and sips of iced water.

Pinkchampagne · 01/06/2009 14:12

Had some Magnums in my freezer so had one of those. Only thing I have eaten today but you can have an ice cream diet when you have a sore throat!

Been to the doctors and he said my throat was inflamed and that I have a throat infection. He hasn't given me antibiotics as he said it will clear in time.

I bet you wish he had said that you need antibiotics! Viral infections are just the pits!

Pinkchampagne · 01/06/2009 21:56

I do - I asked for them but he said it was best not to go straight for the antibiotics if you can avoid it & that it would clear eventually. They don't seem to like giving out antibiotics these days - they didn't want to give me them for DS2's ear infection.
I am getting through boxes & boxes of painkillers though!

How are you feeling today?

Pinkchampagne · 02/06/2009 14:21

Throat still very sore and glands still up, but I am feeling better in myself than I was in that the flu symptoms seem to have gone as does my temperature. It's a case of working out what I can eat that won't hurt now. Tried to eat a peach earlier which was a bad move!

ow!! I honestly think that the icecream diet is fine in these circumstances. More magnums needed!
