Argh - immunisations today and then came out in chicken pox after. Will his immune system cope?

I took ds3 for his thrid set of jabs today. He is 10 months old but I have delayed them all and done them with larger gaps so it was the one he would have had at 4 months. Two hours later he came out in blisters. I took him back to the GP who said it was unrelated to the immunisation and was just chicken pox. It has developed since, and I would agree.

So, how on earth will his immune system cope? I don't normally like them to be immunised if they even have a cold let alone chicken pox!

No-one has any opinions on this?

No advice I'm afraid, but I'm sure that your GP would have told you if there was any cause for concern. Poor little lamb.

Sorry, don't know but will bump for you and hope that your DS is ok.

I am sure your DS will be OK. This must happen a lot and his immune system will undoubtedly manage without any problem whatsoever.

There is nothing you could have done to prevent this coincidence, but the only reason that immunisations are sometimes delayed until after recovery from an acute illness, is that the response to the vaccine might not be as strong. Nothing to do with immune overload, as some would have you believe, but more that the immune system should be allowed to 'settle' to get a subsequent optimal response to the vaccine. Broadly, this is to do with the way that the immune system deals with virus vs. bacterial pathogens, rather than anything to do with the innate "strength" of the immune system.
