Hi Aimsmum

It was the out of hours dr that said he won't give anymore antibiotics. DS is only 14mnths so I can't use the nasal spray. I will go and see my GP tomorrow and make sure she it definitely refering him to ENT specialist. He has a really bad ear and throat infection in Jan and ever since he keeps getting ear infections. His ear drums have never burst maybe that is what he needs. So do you think he will become dependent on the painkillers?

CADS, I'm fairly sure I used a nasal spray on my ds as young as 14 months. At a minimum you can use a saline one for sure.
My ds had terrible constant ear infections which stopped immediately after being vaccinnated for pneumoccocal meningitis (it's required in the usa, so I had it done). One of the known side effects of the jab is preventing ear infections....it worked like a dream for us.

Thanks SofiaAmes, I will have a look and see if there are any nasal sprays in the UK that we can use on him.

Hi Aimsmum - DS hasn't been too bad today. He had a good nap at lunchtime and didn't wake up crying this morning or after his nap, both of which are usually a good sign. We didn't manage to see his GP today, I am going to give it a couple of days and see how he gets on. Will be looking at tooth paste and teething powders as you suggested. The problem is he is on a dairy free diet and as far as I know teething powders usually have lactose in them. How is you dd doing?

Better go and finish the dinner.

Here is hoping we have a peaceful nights sleep.

Hi Aimsmum

Sorry, I haven't got back to you sooner. DS is on dairy free because he has had really bad wind and tummy ache since he was a newborn.

Finally, after months of going on about it, the paed recommended we try cut out dairy completely. I think he has been a lot better but it is difficult to be 100% sure until we sort out his ears. I find it really difficult cooking without dairy and although he likes soya milk, the soya cheese it revolting. I find I spend more time cooking because I have to avoid things that I love and are quick to prepare (cheese on toast, pasta in cream sauce, etc). I absolutely love my cheese and can't live without it!!!

We haven't had a good day today and ds is finally asleep after 2.5hrs. Am going to take him to the GP tomorrow and see what she has to say. Not expecting a good night.

Hope you and dd are well.
Goodnight

Hope you have better luck w/the new surgery, Aims.

We have one doc at our surgery whom I won't see b/c he's as useful as a chocolate teakettle.

So when they tried to book me w/him, I flat out refused to see him. When they asked why, I told them the truth, that he's an incompetent waste of space and I could get better medical advice from a tramp in the street.

They never put me w/him again.

Hi Aimsmum

Your new doctor sounds nice, lets hope it continues that way.

Took ds to the GP yesterday and she said his ears and throat are red anymore and he must be teething now. However, he has been tugging at his right ear a fair bit today. The last two nights have been bad. He wakes up at about 8.30-9pm (bedtime 7pm) and then fusses and cries for ages. Something, is obiviously bothering him because he is a good sleeper when he is 100% and if he does wake up settles really quickly and easily. That has not been the case and I have landed up giving him calpol which helps because he settles and goes to sleep once it kicks in.

I told the doc about using medised/calpol once a day (everynight for last 2 wks) and she was ok with it. She said he obiviously needs it and to continue if necessary. Not a desirable but desperate!

I will shut up now. Feel really silly complaining when your dd has much bigger problems with her ears. Hope she is well.

Oh, if you remember the name of that cheese, please let me know. Also, find it difficult thinking of quick easy dinners that are dairy free.

Take care

Hi Aimsmum

Hope you had a nice weekend and all is well with dd.

Thanks for that website. Had no idea where to get some non dairy cheese that would melt, so this is fantastic.

Unfortunately, ds hasn't been any better and we are all sleep deprived in my house. At a complete loss at to what is going on as he is teething (i think) and also had his MMR last monday. I have heard some horror stories re the side effects of the jab, but when I posted on here and ask other mothers, most of them had no problems.

I am going to give it a couple of days and if he hasn't improved then, I guess, back to the GP again (5 time in 6 wks).

Going off to bed now to try and get a couple of hours in before the nightwaking/s start.

Hi

The peaceful nights only lasted two days! Have a fantastic hoilday. Can't wait till mine. Going to see my folks in South Africa for 3 weeks. Not expecting a peaceful time though. Their house is completely baby unfriendly. DS is going to get it everything. Will just have to go shopping all day every day and let mom deal with him.

ABow · 23/05/2005 17:15

Aimsmum you poor thing. You did absolutely right complaining. It was a long time ago now but my younger brother had problems that sound exactly the same. Gromits, antibiotics, steriods the works.

Now I don't want you to freak out but this is why you have to complain and question everything, and DO NOT feel like a paranoid mother. Drs are not infallible - its just that they do not know that and need reminding everynow and again. Also there are some excellent helpful drs out there - you just have to find them.
Going back to my brother's story - Eventually one dr said that they would need to do an op to remove part of the inner ear (sounds scary but it solved the problems and although deaf in one ear he is now healthy, and travelling the world) because the ear infection had got so bad, and the dr scheduled my brother for an operation 6 months down the line. My mum went bolistic because my brother was obviously very very ill and demanded a second opinion. This second opinion ended up saving my brothers life. This sounds very extreme and I can give you more info if you like but I'm a bit worried about freaking you out with details that may not be relevant to you.

Carry on being strong honey!
