Can anyone suggest something to relieve pain.
Have had bad knees for years and today its REALLY bad.
Paracetamol hasn't touched it. can't take codeine, or anything asprin based (including anti-imflams such a ibroprofen etc)

Not feeling well enough to face putting a cold compress on and don't have time to rest it at mo. Anyone got any ideas for immediate/ longer term relief?

A sock filled with a grain (rice, corn, I like millet) can be tied of at the end and heated in a microwave. They can also be put in the freezer and used as cold packs but I like them warm myself-v soothing. Arnica, oral and/or as a rub.

Why can't you take anti-inflams? Is it asthma or tummy? Or possibly something I know nothing about.

If it's your tummy, there is a drug called omperazole which you can take to protect it. It's very effective. I discovered it about two years ago and while I usually do what I can to avoid NSAIDs, sometimes they really are just what you need.

I speak as a patient, not an expert!

Actually I collaspe into little head when I have taken anything aspirin based which includes the NSAIDs.

Not sure why but believe its a blood pressure thing as have rather low blood presure normally and my high bp is a low normal bp.

I am glad that you do not collapse into a little head but even so, it sounds serious. You could try this for some relief. We had our annual local marathon today and this was one of the products given out to all the runners.

have you seen your GP about your knees?

frustratedmom · 26/05/2009 12:08

Oh nevergoogle have spent too much time seeing doctors and physio's about knees and now associated back issues. Best they do is send to physio but as i have just complained as to the incompetance of the last physio (she didn't listen, missed things picked up by previous physios and the last straw when i stated that if my knee starts clicking that is when it gets bad was oh well some people just have clicky knees and missed point it doesn't click when good ).

Have been suggested a private physio but considering requesting a referal to a rheumatologist to find out why other joints are now starting play up -already not its not arthritis but dont know cause of decades of increasing issues
