headlice

Have today bought a (natural) headlice remedy called Delacet, and have been told that it's the business. I've applied it to both boys heads tonight and was going to do my own head later, but it's such an alarming green colour ( it stained my hands and the loo seat) and I'm a bit concerned that it's going to turn my brand new highlights the same shade of green. Has anyone any experience of this?

hi josie, did it come off easily with water?if not don`t use it,i only use tea tree oil conditioner and has worked a treat no headlice for over 4 months

Thanks whymummy, I think you're right. I didn't do my hair in the end as the toilet seat ( and window sill) seem to be indelibly stained- it won't even come off with bleach! Hopefully it will have killed whatever was in the boys hair and we can stick with the tea tree oil from now on.

whymummy - is the tea tree conditioner you use a leave-in one? I use bodyshop tea tree conditioner to wet comb but thought that a leave-in one would be more of a deterrent but I haven't found one yet.

those electric combs you get from argos are fab i found from previous experience.

it electrifies them and you hear the "buzz" my kids loved it!

whymummy · 29/04/2003 14:18

jaybee it`s just a rinse one,but i swear by it,we were getting nit letters every other day and my son never had them since using the conditioner

whymummy · 29/04/2003 17:38

forgot to add that my ds has long hair,i refused to shave his head, and before the tea tree oil he used to get them every week sometimes twice a week and i tried everything, nothing kills the eggs so new lice are born every day, only the wet combing will get rid of the horrible things

whymummy · 29/04/2003 17:59

josiejump if it didnt kill them theyll be all nice and green

josiejump · 04/05/2003 20:40

I've chucked the damn stuff- boys head still crawling ( and yes they probably were green!). Have resigned myself to wet combing and picking the eggs out with my fingernails. Oh, the joys of motherhood.

josie have you tried that nittygritty natural headlice treatment?you can buy it on the net,i got one but i haven`t used it yet since the tea tree oil seems to be doing the job, hope you get rid of them soon!!

josiejump · 06/05/2003 20:10

Nope, haven't yet tried it but will keep it in mind. TBH I'm getting a bit of grief from DH at the moment as he can't understand why I won't use the chemical stuff. Anyway, they seem to be nit free at the moment so I'll do my best to keep it that way hopefully without having to resort to organophosphates.

When I was pg I couldnt use any treatments for my head lice except for combing through loads of conditioner. Boring but it worked well.

Seconding the electric buzzy thing, which you can also buy in Boots. Ds came home with them on Friday, buzzed him Friday and Saturday and no sign of anything since. You can use it as a detection / preventative as well, unlike the chemical based ones. Would also be interested in a tea-tree conditioner that you can leave in as couldn't see one in Boots today.
