Laser eye treatment years later

I'm thinking of having LASIK, but am still a bit concerned about the long term effects (given that this treatment hasn't been around for that long). Anyone on here had LASIK several years ago, and how are your eyes, now?

i had mine when i was 26, i am 34 now and have had no problems at all. fwiw i had it done at morefields eye hospital, not at a highstreet clinic. it cost more but i felt i would rather pay more and have it done in the best place possible.

Thanks for that. Am definitely willing to pay more to increase the chances of a good outcome! What was your prescription? (Mine is the very highest end of moderate short sight). And when you say you've had no problems, does that mean you treat your eyes now exactly as you would if you hadn't had a flap cut into your corneas and have 20/20 vision without any visual aberrations/fluctuations in vision throughout the day?

cant remember exact prescription, it was close to -8 (my glasses were like tizer bottles!) after the op you use eyes drops for 2 weeks and since then i have done nothing to my eyes at all, i have an eye test once a year and my sight is the same as it was after i had the treatment, i dont have any problems driving at night (i know sometimes people report problems with lights at night) dont have any visual problems at all.
like anything i know that there are risks, when i went for the first consultation i was really impressed with the person that did my op, he was able to answer all my questions, he put me in touch with several other people that had already had it done and i found the thought of having it done in a proper eye hospital reassuring. personally i would have it done again, i went from not being able to see to find my glasses in the morning to being able to read subtitles on the tv by the evening, it sounds silly but it was like a miracle for me!

Honestly, no-one knows. I'm a professional and i wouldn't have it done, the choice however is yours. get it done at the best place you can afford if you decide to go ahead, and if they don't seem keen, run away!

Had mine done in 2002, at Ultralase, and have never regretted it. Had similar prescription to nancy (ie very very very short sighted!) and decided to have it done so I could go swimming with Ds and not worry about losing him (all children look alike when I had no glasses on!)
Have recently needed to get glasses for driving as my eyesight has deteriorated slightly since the op. But it was constantly deteriorating before the op too - was spending a fortune on glasses - especially paying for the thinner lenses. So the op has probably almost paid for itself.
Otherwise had no problems with eyes and eyesight.
It's always worth going to be assessed to see if your eyes are suitable for the op.
