Does anyone know a good private GP in London because I am now so fed up with my practice and just WANT TO GET BETTER <growl> or does anyone have any experience in insisting GPs find out what's wrong..

I find health matters SO boring, especially my own and I have had problems for years.

I started a thread last week I think - I have nightmare sinuses (accident years ago) and I have a dodgy tum that may possibly be Crohns but they haven't been able to make a full diagnosis. I also get migraines, mainly menstrual ones but also related to my sugar intake.

So for the last few months, I have sinus infection after infection to the extent that I was vomiting because it was so severe. At the same time, I've developed a visual disturtbance in my left eye. When I get it, I know I will be vomiting the next day. Strange thing is, it doesn't necessarily mean I will get a migraine but does mean I get a thumping of whooshing in my head.

So I went to the GP who said there was nothing wrong with my eyes and shoved me on a course of Amoxycillin and said I couldn't be THAT ill as I'd hardly been to the doctor over the last few years (YES BECAUSE YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING SO NO POINT - a few years ago, when I went with the migraines, they told me they were just headaches and to get on with it and the fact that I kept coming back when I only had headaches must mean I was depressed ).

The amoxycillin finished yesterday and the symptoms have come back straight away. Had a visual disturbance and spent the whole morning vomiting. Am just so fed up now.

Don't think there's any point going back to the GP but now don't know where to go. This is really affecting my ability to work as last week I had 3 days off and it just keeps on going and I have no idea where to turn.

I would change your GP as a first port of call. It would be cheaper than going private and might have the same result.

Mine (also London) will refer you for the drop of a hat and thinks nothing of requesting extensive, expensive investigations on flimsy evidence. In fact I sometimes go to another GP in teh practice because I get a bit bored of being referred yet again. THe other GP in the practice, you have to be practically bleeding from the eyeballs to get any treatment at all, let alone a referral.

Worth starting a thread in mumsnet local asking for suggestions?

Then if your new GP is no better you could go private after that, maybe?

also if it's affecting your ability to work, might your employer fund or part-fund investigation? Lots of large employers have a company scheme and will help out in some cases.

Eg my employer offered me company funded counselling when my mum died.

hi thanks, yes I could change GP I suppose. It is so frustrating and I'm getting more and more annoyed.

I'm sure my employer would fund something if I asked but it would be classed as a benefit and I'd pay tax on it but part of me thinks at least it would be 40% of the costs not 100%!

I can refer myself to an ENT I'm sure but part of my problem is that I am self diagnosing by doing that and I'm not sure whether this is related to the sinuses (though I'd bet my bottom dollar it is and this is flaring up because of hayfever season = sinuses swelling).

Just bored of it all now :-( and want to feel well.

Thanks so much for your comments. They have made me feel loads better.

Perhaps a private consultation with an ENT specialist would be the way to go? Do you need a referral from a GP to go private these days?

Sounds like you have chronic sinusitis from the damage from the accident, together with migraine, for which some sugary foods are the trigger.

Are you keeping a food and symptom diary?

Sorry you are going through this - it is so frustrating.

Off to work now, hope you get some help.
